Yeh but most on this board prolly think they sound too old. same time as the beatles. they were pretty big.
I enjoy the beatles. Their earlier stuff im not a huge fan on except for a few songs, when they started taking acid is when they started getting good. Strawberry fields forever, here comes the sun, octopus garden, black bird Right there are the beatles most people havnt heard. They judge them on the more "poppy" songs they did early on in their career.
yes hot shit indeed... i saw them live back in June here in Nashville. took 50mg of hydrocodone, chilled, nodded. it was fucking awesome.
well the beatles' earlier stuff was still way ahead of other bands of the time. most of it is good too. caus theres heaps of great songs on their earlier albums that no one knows because they were the singles, or they were covers (but the beatles added their special flair of course). probably some of my least favourite songs (though i still love practically all, i jsut dont connect with these ones much anymore>) are the ones on the number 1 compilation. but anyway i only descovered simon and garfunkel tongiht, and ive lsitened to them all ngihtm. till about an hour ago then i wrote my own stuff inspired by them, and now im lsitening to them again
Yes, the beatles first music was definetly before their time. They were the most revolutionary band ever, this is very obvious. I definetly respect their first music but I dont enjoy it like I do their older music. The 1-2 minute love songs just dont cut it. I guess its probably because im more into "stoner" music. Music which has an awesome feel and sound to it when baked. Just cool to chill out with. I got my first beatles cd when I was about 7 or so Id say, a hard days night. Not the stoner music im into but ill listen to it
sound of silence is the shit, and the roving gambler, and april come she will, and peculiar man, and man all theyre songs are the shit. but listen to AMERICA, Yes redid that song better, but s&g versions still mad good!
For a good rundown of there songs, try the Live in Central Park CD. Has all there hits and a very good concert. PBS tends to show this concert around Christmas time sometimes, so you may have a shot next month. I myself like alot of there songs Scarborough Fair, Sound of Silence, Homeward Bound, Late in the Evening. Just a few of my faves. Peace The Pizza Prophet
I saw them in 83 and it was the biggest crowd (52000), and quietest concert I have been to. They were wicked. America, Homeward Bound, The Boxer, Sound of Silence, Bridge over..., 59th st. bridge song, late in the evening, so many good tunes. didn't do I am a rock. but they had an 11 piece band, and after each song the crowd would applaud then turn instantly silent waiting for the next song, it was wild. old friends.... quite the show
Simon and Garfunkel are so awsome... I only know a couple of their songs (Mrs. Robinson and Sounds of Silence) They're so great at harmonizing and its so laid back and awsome to listen to, stoned or sober. BTW, BlackGuard, you sig picture is friggen awsome!
Simon and garfunkel were my favorite musicians for quite sometime, i went to a show of theirs this summer, it was nice to see legends play
yeh they dont have that many big hits but thats caus most of their stuff is really atmospheric, and not so much catchy. thats what makes to so good for getting stoned to. their recordings were so good, and all the mixing too, its all jsut so powerful
