what do you want to add? is there something you want to see added to the FAQ at the top of the forum? post it and we can discuss adding it. what do you want to ask? is there a question about dreadlocks that isn't already answered in the FAQ? post it and we can discuss adding it. see the thread to end all dumb threads http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=364273&f=209
You might consider clarifying the tnr explanation. I couldn't figure out how tnr worked until after I was neglecting (thankfully, or I would have used it) I always took the "r" too literally... more like twist n' seperate.
Me and a couple other members have asked about the length of hair required to start dreading and the advantages of starting with long hair vs. short hair...
I think all the faq could say is "it depends". How it dreads heavily depends on your individual hair and it's texture, etc. But in the end, it doesn't seem to matter lots. Would assume that's why it's not covered.
Not exactly... if you do "neglect" and start with short hair, you will usually end up with a larger amount of dreads that are skinny. If you start with longer hair there is more room for the hairz to grab onto each other and you get more fatties (unless you rip them in half). Although of course everybody's hair dreads differently... For twist and rip, maybe a good youtube clip could cover it something like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VimvRHBJTqw"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VimvRHBJTqw
Hah yeah, figured that out on my own.... About how neglect does that with size, yes, but not always... I have pretty long hair, and on one side of my head, where there's more curls, it was like a mass of loops, with some skinny dreads of the type with more strait hairs bound together by a few. Then I got the opposite situation on the other side of my head. (in the end, both should look ok together tho, methinx) So anyway, it depends heavily, even on one single head.
Yeah but a small section addressing this information might help inform curious aspiring dreadies with the same question. :shrug I dunno just a thought.
to that mmg! if i had never twist and ripped and backcombed a little i wouldn't have dreads i had not brushed my hair in over 4 years at that stage, and not a single dread had formed... i'm serious! one night of some backcombing and one go over of TNR and voila, dreads on their way... finally!
included. i wrote it quick, so if you see an error or would like to add to it or rewrite it, let me know happy birthday:xmastree:
@mmg I lol'd. I think you should post YOUR locks NP. since it's your FAQ and all. Besides, I want to see how they look because you wash mostly with just water... a method I am considering.
i think glenglens tip about putting a wooly jumper on your pillow should be added if it's not already in there.
i cut them shits off YEARS ago mane. you can see pics in my album if you want tho also, a little dish soap never hurt anybody's dreads. :xmastree:
why'd you cut? :/ I was thinking about washing with sea salt all the time and then using shampoo every week or two weeks or something. To make mine lock up faster.
excessive heat combined with my workload. it became unbearable. coo. let us know how it turns out. i was also thinking about adding something about using dish soap, but i only know of myself and a particular skinny horse that does it.
