Hey folksies, I have a question for you all. I've looked extensively around the internet and couldn't find any mention of previous discussion of this, so here I am asking it as a result. Have any of you ever put crystals (i.e. embedded small quartz points or other crystal shards) in your dreads for energetic effects? I've been thinking about it lately, following my interest and involvement with crystals, energetically, and how it would be a great way to carry crystals around with your regularly, and have them always in constant, inconspicuous contact with you. Any thoughts?
My thoughts? Sleeping is going to be rather uncomfortable. I'm sure this will be unwelcome, but seriously... They're just rocks. Pretty rocks that formed in pockets, but no more special than any other given chunk of those same elements. And were sitting on a damn big chunk of those elements.... You couldn't get away from them if you wanted to. That unwelcomeness said, in my opinion these sorts of things do have some power, but it's placebo and inspiration, both quite powerful in their own right. Are these qualties not already part of the idea of having dreads anyway? That said, just my opinions, no disrespect to you, I could be full of it.
i've done it before... had a whole lot of amethyst chips sewn into one of my felt dreads, but they came out one by one every time i used that dread as a hair tie! i also had a citrine embedded into a dread bead in my hair for a while too... but it fell out eventually as the bead was a bit wide for the dread i'd stuck it on but yeah, i'd reccommend the stone embedded into a bead route rather than sewing them in, as you'll lose them pretty quickly... maybe have a look on etsy and see if anyone's selling them? i bought mine at a stall at a festival a while ago i mostly wear my stones as jewelry though... i find having them touching my skin is the most effective way to go
To add to the answers that don't answer your question... a lot of people view their locks as a source of power/energy in and of themselves.
how bout a wire wrap? hev the crystals u want wrapped then put em in ur dreads or hang it on a necklace
my locks are my strength. i truly believe if i shave them my life will go back to what it used to be. they make me strong. just like sampson!
It would be uncomfortable, and unless the crystals were quite small, the wight would make your dreadlocks quite heavy. It's not worth it, considering that crystals are basically just shiny rocks, and will be about as energizing as rubbing a Budda's belly, or carrying around a Bible.... In other words, pointless.
I didn't really come on here to discuss whether crystals do or do not have *real* effects, but it's a welcome controversy I would suggest there is lots of scientific evidence (for those of you who have invested interests in the authority of science) based on kirlian photography and electromagnetic measurements that crystals do indeed produce electromagnetic fields. Science also indicates that the body produces an electromagnetic field. Therefore, it's not much of a stretch to assert that outside electromagnetic fields can probably modulate or affect the body's own electromagnetic field. The science is there, if one needs science to affirm this kind of thing; you just need to find it, because it's not widely 'approved' by the rather rigid mainstream expectation of scientific 'progress.' I think we should be careful of dismissing something as placebo simply because we haven't experienced it before. (especially given that only 4.6% of the universe is actually visible to us - the rest is so-called 'dark matter'/'dark energy' that is beyond 'visible' or obvious experience) On to the real matter though... when i was talking about embedding the crystals, I was thinking more of taking REALLY small shards of crystals (i.e. tiny quartz points about 1" long and maybe 5-ish mm wide [extremely light]) and actually pushing them into the dreads (I have pretty fat dreads...), or alternatively, making a small incision into the dreads, putting the crystal inside, and sowing the dread back up again. Classy surgical style. @ phoenixsun: I agree that crystals are probably more effectively used against the skin, but i was thinking that even if they were in your dreads, they'd still be immersed in your 'head-space' if you will...
would you be kind enough to post a picture of these fattymcfattersons? I think the "stabbing it in there and putting a wrap around it" idea would work fine.
