I was thinking about majoring in Geology. I love studying about the history of the earth, and all the field work, because I love nature and the outdoors.

to be a hippy is to be a free spirit, not bound by labels, social clock, etc...

a part of this is just doing what you do and not crumbling under the pressure of outside influence. so a hippy major, in my opinion, would be whatever makes you happy no matter how ridiculous or straight or curvy or implausible, etc...

my major was journalism for a year... then my major was "chilling out and taking the year off to travel and smoke weed"... then my major was "selling weed and growing weed"... then my major was "getting laid like its my job and hiking"... now my major is "studio art with a focus in being totally radical."

get it now? just do what feels right, dont bother to label yourself a "this or that" major until it feels right.

as far as geology goes... thats sounds really cool if thats where your passion lies. i'd be bored to death learning about rocks and pangea. i'd be more of a forestry concentration, because i loves trees and forests. flora and fauna.
    ya dig?

God Geology is hard... I love it because it keeps your interest, but damn. I am horrible at remembering things I have never seen before.

It's definitely a cool thing to learn about the natural world. But are you talking about majors that would lead into a career. I don't think having a career is wrong, but I know that hippies aren't fond of careers. It's just fun to try to expand your understanding of our environement. Blah blah.

well i have a few things i amm contemplating, but none of the are for the immediate future. i first want to teach english as a foreign language for a year, perhaps a few, to get on my feet. I can save money doing that which will help me pay some of my way when i decided to further my education.

    ok what i am considering:

    1) what i said in my first post, most likely non-profit work with organizations working with interfaith dialouge in the Arab-Israeli conflict.

    2) I have wanted to do this for a while, but have been greatly discouraged because i lack a good scientific foundation. Even though it's doubtful i would love to do work with religious experiences and psychedelic drugs in the present and also in the past. the research is coming back, so it's possible!

3)part of me is contemplating law school. i would want to do human rights law, either in america or abroad. sure i wouldn't make too much money, but there are other types of law i could do for a little while to get on my feet.

    4) there is a college i want to go to, but i have discouraged myself from it recently, yet now i am thinking about it again. there i would further my studies in eastern religions, and study either sanskrit or tibetan...i would work torwards my PhD, but start off with a masters. that could lead to a few things, most likely being a professor...i dont want that, and i personally think i would suck at it, but what the hell?

only time will tell, yeah one could settle to do corporate stuff, i studied what i knew would keep me interested. i took classes in things that stimulated my thinking. i am poor as fuck right now, and although money isn't everything i feel like i am a slave to it. i have a feeling things will change eventually and it will be ok.

im 22 and there are people making tons of money in corporate jobs by that age. fuck it, i am having fun, and learning every day.

also i won't say there aren't numbers 5 and 6 cuz as time passes more options may come up :D
