This makes no sense to me... (Your post that is. Dreadedsunflower pretty much covers how to comb locks out)
My job has a problem with long hair in general. They told me I had to cut or put my 2 weeks in. I told em to fuck off and for some reason I still have my job and hair. I got a huge beanie that I stuff em up in all day and no one complains. I just look like I have a really odd shaped head. And don't worry about what they look like right after you do em. It will be a mess. It's the gettin there that's the best part. Hope all go's well.
lol at ahmad's weird shaped head comment ^^^ tee hee i have a crap part time job where they said they "don't allow extreme or offensive hairstyles or body modifications". so i just asked my manager 'hey are dreadlocks extreme or offensive?' and she just laughed and said i just have to keep my shit clean. i've even met the big corporate head with my dreadlocks and she didn't say shit. so that being said, i think you're alright. it's all about how you carry yourself and how qualified you are. and you are always in the right to argue them down if it appears they ONLY denied you the job based on hair style.
re size: if you want thin maybe index finger-size sections or smaller. don't start big and go small, it's painful. if you start small and want bigger, you can always encourage congos several months into the locking process. definitely wouldn't use baby powder on your hair. if your scalp is already used to not washing every day, nice work, maybe try going a bit longer between washes to let the little knots that forming grab on a bit tighter. definitely use a non-residue shampoo, baking soda, vinegar, etc.
that does give me hope. once i get back from my month of fun i need to buckle down and save. I should be overly qualified for telemarketing at that time. The positive side is it will make ok money to save for my trips aborad and that i will be contacting people via phone. sure i will need to look professional, but i think they can toelrate me having some crazy lookn hair locked up in tam or something. after that my plan is to go to south america to teach english. hopefully dreads will be moderately welcome there. and about the bold you are right, it's just that not everyone around me will understand. i am sure many of you have been in places where people didn't understand at some time or another. where i live it will be more often than not. it's ok, it will probably good be for me to learn to give less of a fuck what people think about me! some very good advice! good, i am glad you said that. i knew it was possible to rip dreads apart, but the only person to mention that was someone newly forming hers. you are thinking what i have been thinking, in regards to locking about pencil length dreads! so are you suggesting i stop conditioning in the weeks before i dread (because it won't be for a couple more weeks i am sure) sure i gradually take out the conditioner over that time...i don't have nappy hair, simply hair that is a pain in the ass to brush after showering..
You don't have to stop conditioning. I didn't stop conditioning right up to the night before I got my 1st set and 2nd set.
that's up to you. i started using a non-residue shampoo and stopped conditioning a week or two before i started locking.
