I have some pretty thin locks growing...the back is just about all dreaded up, but the rest is mostly just little bulges of flat matted hair, with regular hair going down the last 1-3 inches or so of my dreads...Just curious what you guys would recommend to move things along...Wash more often? (I usually wash every 3-4 days)...wear a wool hat to bed?

Sorry, I'm impatient...I thought at 18 months I'd be further along, especially since I have such curly hair...no doubt, thinner locks take longer, though...

All credit to glen, he had the idea to put a wool sweater over your pillow case. I think it's helped heaps.

    Besides that smoke more blunts.

i feel ya, i've been dreadin' a little more than a year, and while most of my hair is locking up, some parts just don't want to! maybe i'll try the ole sweater over the pillow case trick.

most of it looks to be on the very edge of locking up. Though if its looked like that for a long time, it obviously isn't. Ripping some may help you.

Yea if I were you Id try to help them get started... maybe just make some lil knots by your roots and see if they take off in sections on their own.
The ones you already got forming look good tho :)

Your hair also looks really soft.
Ya might wanna dry it up a little bit to encourage more friction.

Thanks for your thoughts...Yes, it is quite soft...what do you reccomend to dry it up/create more friction...

Also, what's misleading is that there are a lot of clumps/mats formed about 2-4 inches from the roots...it's hard to photograph - it looks like there's more loose hair than there really is...although the first and last couple inches are not knotted/tight like the back.

Why would he do that after going 18 months natural?

I read this in another post as well...it was talking about how good it is for skinny dreads...I can't believe how great my dreads look now. Thank you kind sir!

Btw, I bought a head band/wrap and am wearing it to bed now...really helps as well...try one out if you haven't already.

Now can anyone recommend a way to dry out my hair more? Sea salt?

I personally think sea salt is great for helping dreads along, also making the hair more course which I helps the locking process. I almost always add some with baking soda when I wash my locks.

I had a peek at your pics and I think they're comming along fine btw. Obviously if you live near the sea and can get the real thing then that's best, but if not just either add some when you're washing your hair, or mix some in a spray bottle, just don't overdo it in terms of quantity and frequency. What are you washing with anyway?

I have some sea salt...it's not the thick grained kind though - looks like table salt...will that suffice? How much do you add usually?

As far as what I wash with: Currently I use a 32 oz. cup of water and about 2 tsp. of baking soda...gets 'em clean for sure...but, yeah, leaves my hair pretty soft.

Yea I was wondering that too, what are you using to wash and how frequent are you washing?
