Why are we told by the society that sex is bad? Why does society set up such a rule?

I think for the same reason why authority doesn't allow cussing. To teach and keep "sophistication."

Then we all naturally grow into sophistication but since we take that "sophistication" as sophisticated, we die a lot more than we already were.

And also there's the religious peeps. at least our religious history and customs

    ^^I have to agree.

You don't see hardcore porn in the mainstream, but the boundaries are constantly being pushed. Actually, if anything, I think there's too much sex in society...

he's not saying its bad. hes asking why society restricts it.

I agree that sex sells, but does no one else understands what the op is saying?

since you can't have sex in public, no nudity on tv, and a lot of parents strictly keep their kids from anything like that. and it creates a stigma that the more sexual things people get into, the more sleezy they look.
obviously actual sex isn't forbidden, but I'm taking the op's question as a question on restrictions or at least influence.

No nudity on TV does absolutely nothing to prevent you from having sex.
Not being able to have sex in public....honestly? So what? You can still have sex, just not in front of strangers in a public place. Do you really want to go to a restaurant and see two (probably fat and ugly) people doing it on the floor?
As far as the parents thing goes, some parents take it a bit to far, but keeping kids away from sexuality until they are mature enough to respond to their own sexuality seems like a good call to me.

uh.. ok? yeah i agree with you, but still, i'm pretty sure the question is about why the stigma and laws are there.
and i meant "restrict" as a difference from "forbid".

    And I'm pointing out.....what stigma....what laws?
There is absolutely nothing preventing you from having sex, unless you want to do it in the park, or rape a 12 year old.

the only thing you're pointing out is that people can still have sex. got it.
what laws? the laws that prevent nudity on television, billboards or public places in general. Prostitution too. and you just said that people can have sex but not in parks or with 12 y/o's, those laws.
what stigma? well if you don't see some now, i'd be kinda shocked. the definition of a slut can be defined by society much better, people look at sex addicts like their freaks, etc.

Like I said man, censorship of nudity in no way prevents or inhibits your ability to have sex. The main reason for that kind of censorship is children.

The only time someone is a "sex addict" is when the need for sex actually intrudes upon their life and disables them from doing things necessary for self-sustainability. I think anyone would agree that kind of behavior isn't healthy.

People do teach that sex is bad, or at least a little shameful. When we're kids, sex is hidden from us (not that I want to see it however) and the topic is dismissed by adults when we're curious. A lot of adults today were once kids who internalized their parents' messages. Now we all run around like chickens with their heads off when anything sexual is mentioned.

yea i still don't get why you're sayin that though cuz I'm not talkin about the ability to have sex

there's the answer to the question then.

Yeah and a lot of people don't understand the addiction problem, they look at them like freaks with no empathy. Some people flat out refuse to believe that sex addictions exist. I find the ignorance very similar to drugs where since the people find the subject "bad", they won't lift a lid to see their ignorance.

Hey, glad to see somebody here gets it.

Actually, it is a moot question. Pretty much historically documented that the Judeo/Christian society (that's us) in general and the Puritans specifically (Us in the U.S.) have been a sex-negative culture. Oh the Puritans were a rowdy bunch in fact, but only to have sex for procreation between a man and his wife.

There was a bunch of sexual activity going on in the mid 19th century but in secret because Victorian society could not countenance even discussing it.

Which brings us to the "Sexual Revolution" when a bunch of us young ppl threw off all those old contrivances of our parents' generations and did it in the road. However, it seems we "matured" and there hasn't been so many young ppl behind us so by the 1980s we stepped backward a little toward the old contrived propriety.

Why is it important to prevent kids from seeing nudity? Kids don't have much interest in sex or nudity until they hit puberty. Then they NEED to be asking questions.

The old rules were more appropriate for a time in which there was no effective birth control, and syphilis could result in death. The real problem is that the social rules have not kept up with medical advances.

It was the mid-80s when I noticed a step back in the moral practices of the young and single, when HIV went mainstream heterosexual.

Because accepting the fact that human beings like to have sex is to much for some people to handle.
