I've started doing wire wraps and would like to know what you guys think? I'll be selling them at my shows this summer but would love to get some feedback to see what I need to improve on.
Your wrapping is great, you will most likely get better with every one you make so no worries there. As far as business wise, imo people may be more apt to purchase wraps with more precious stones, but of course on the other hand it would be great to have the option of a more affordable piece. Maybe it would be good to keep a selection of high to low priced so there something for everyone. Also, I don't know if you've done this but if you shine the threads with a cloth frequently as you go the metal will noticeably gleam inside and out of your pieces. Never stop, your work is beautiful.
they're stunning!!, must take you hours of work. what kind of wire do you use? just wondering if it's hypoallergenic?
I want to learn and have more pretty stones then you could imagine buckets upon buckets http://s980.photobucket.com/albums/ae289/aprilcain/rocks%20uploaded%20bigger/
Thank a lot everyone. Yeah Michael, I do have some more expensive gems but want to wait to use them. I think with the way it is today less expensive but good looking pieces will sell better, I don't think that people will have an extra 3 - 5 hundred bucks to slap in my hand for a wrap at a festival, though I've been surprised in the past with my clothing, so I plan on having a couple pieces that are pricey for that variety. Thanks so much for the cloth tip too, I didn't think of that. I'm using Argentium Sterling Silver and 14K gold. Most of the stones and gems I hand panned, dug or picked throughout the country on my adventures. I tumble and polish them myself too. The cabs I bought online, thought they were pretty. Trippin - I self taught, I looked at photos of others work on sites like metalworkers.org (AWESOME artists!) and figured out how to twist the wire. I'm still working on it. Go ahead and give it a try. I used cheap wire first and BS rocks to get an idea then started with the expensive wire to make these. Thanks for all the kind words.
thanks for the reply phunky, and for the metalworkers link. have had a quick look, now going back for a longer browse.
1 - $120 2 - $110 3 - $60 4 - $70 5 - $110 I hate pricing, I suck at it but I know I need to do it, getting what's fair to me while giving a good deal to you Thanks for asking and the sweet words.
Thanks so much everyone. I'm done going to festivals for now and have been working on making these better. Here are some of my latest ones.
Holy crap!! You are my hero!:hurray::hurray: Those are absolutely beautiful! I've been trying my hand at a little wire-wrapping but haven't gotten nearly as good of results as you! I hope your stuff sells for what it's worth because it's absolutely gorgeous! (If you would be willing to give me a few pointers I would very, very, very much appreciate it. Of course, I know your are selling them so no worries if you don't want to give away your secrets.) Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much everyone. Tinkertiger - it's Moldavite (meteorite - only in Czech republic). One the one wrap, I added more wire and it looks so much better. Here are some ones I just finished...a Sunstone bracelet, tourmaline and topaz ring and Aqua, tourmaline and Kunzite wrap.
