i've read a few articles that thoroughly discredited her. presented facts and everything. you think she cares? hell, i bet there's been at least one book published on the subject.
I mean discredited like Joe McCarthy was discredited, to where she's stripped of all influence, made a public pariah and vanishes from the scene.
Actually don't hold your breath, the whole Texas textbook controversy currently going on where conservatives on the board are trying to change textbooks to include: It wasn't in that article but I remember reading another one where McCarthy was to be given a new history, someone who while going overboard had decent intentions given the political climate at the time.
Well she is at the univeristy of calgary today.... I really hope that those who disagree with the idea that hate and fear mongers should be given public platforms from which to spread their bile will show up and demonstrate that this shit isn't cool. Edited to add the info below; Ann Coulter will speak at the University of Calgary Red and White Club, 2nd Floor, Olympic Volunteer Centre LOCATED AT MCMAHON STADIUM Doors open at 7:00 p.m.
Just reading through blogs and stories about this, its amazing what you can find... She claims she is the victim of a 'hate crime' because the provost at UofO sent her an email saying ; This is the woman who said in response to a 17 year old girls question; When the student said she didn't have a flying carpet, Coulter told her to "take a camel." This woman (ann coulter) should be stripped naked and dragged by camels back to the US and tossed across the border. - figuratively speaking of course.
Here is the full letter to Ann Coulter from the provost of UofO that she claims makes her the victim of a hate crime.
Shows that Canada has more sense than we do concerning useless attention seeking right wing morons. Good on you.
That's a lot like 'stick your head in the sand and pretend it doesn't happen' I think way to many people have been swayed beyond tolerance of differences into tolerance of deciet, dishonesty and intelligence. Think of it this way, if the provost of the UofO is guilty of a hate crime for that letter he wrote, which was polite, never threatened anything, just suggested she take note that this is a different country with different laws, what is she guilty of for the things she has said? She has quite clearly came out and attacked everyone except white males, that includes females... That shows not only hatred, but also extreme stupidity. She has been arguing amongst other things that women (which she claims to be) shouldn't have a public voice. If she had her way, the US would go back to the day when women didn't, at which point she wouldn't be able to do what she does. Hell even if she got a sex change operation, by her own logic she still wouldn't qualify to do anything except stay home and look after a house. That is, if she was allowed to live afterwards, which, once again if it were up to her, wouldn't happen. I will agree that it wouldn't make sense to buy a ticket and go listen to her talk with the way I feel about what she says, but that in no way says I can't denounce what she says for the stupidity, bullshit and ignorant hatred that it is.
Totally call her out on her bullshit, I agree. But to protest her right to speak is worse than any of her vituperation, in my opinion. I'm kind of embarrassed that Canadians, my age no-less, have been so fascistic towards her and her right to share her opinions. Whatever happened to, "I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it"? P.S. "hate crimes" are fucking stupid.
This is exactly what I meant... It's bullshit... we DON'T allow people to say anything they want, there are laws that govern what we say and don't say. Lot's of them. The line has already been drawn, so I consider the question of wether or not we have freedom of speech to be moot, because we do not. I question where we draw that line. This woman is using the tolerance of well meaning people to spew forth hatred based on random factors of birth (did you choose what race or sex you would be?) and encourages others to act on that hatred. She should not be tolerated, let alone defended by anyone.
I know we don't have freedom of speech, but that doesn't change my stance on it. It's illegal to incite hatred towards a group, or slander a person/group ect.; it's also illegal to climb trees in Oshawa. The legality of something doesn't change the morality of something. I wish we hadn't drawn a line. People should be able to say whatever the fuck they want to. If there's any line to be drawn at all, it's that people shouldn't incite violence against a person or people, but I don't think she's done that (yet). I think her opinions should be tolerated; exposed, but tolerated nevertheless.
