hey everyone. i have been creeping on this forum for awhile without registering and finally was curious enough to post. my friend helped me backcomb my hair yesterday (no wax, don't worry) and i've picked up some good old dr bronner's. and i would kind of like to not do much more than seperate my dreads to keep them from congoing. but i was wondering if with really fine, thin hair if it's better to palm roll and what not along the way.. oh and how soon can i put in hair wraps? any advice is welcomed

    good start :)

personally (this is just my opinion, not a rule or anything haha) I suggest not putting in hair wraps/beads until you've got some decent knots going at least 2-3 months down the road. just better to let your hair be free to do its own thing at first until it gets going.

:iagree: Also headbands/putting your hair up a lot might slow things down for you... but it's gonna take a bit anyways. Knots come from hairs being able to move around, tangle and tighten on each other.

awesome. that's good to know. i work at a jr high so i don't have much choice on the headband, but i will do my best to keep it off when i'm not there. i wasn't planning on putting a hair wrap in for awhile, but I was curious anyway.

another question-i work out nearly everyday. i'm not planning on washing my new 'dreads' with soap more than once every week or two, but is it okay to rinse them with water when i'm in the shower after working out? they got kinda wet today and are super curly again-which is fine with me. i just don't want to slow things down by getting them wet frequently.

you can wash them with soap or water as much as you want to, just try to let them dry fully between washes, since they're so new it shouldn't take too long to dry them out. But the more mature the dreads get the longer it takes to dry them out- and can cause mildew and mold etc etc. thats usually why people don't wash them as often.

it's a matter of personal preference honestly.

Just don't palmroll is my opinion. I brokeded two dreadums that way before I learned: they still havent dreaded back up. I also don't like the way it makes e look: wrecks loopeez and ziggums, all those things that make your dreads yours.

Just leave em be, they look great!

haha thanks. i'm doing my best to just embrace the craziness of them. i really actually like it, i just don't want to scare any of the little kids i teach away =P and the palmrolling makes my scalp hurt so i decided it wasn't really worth it.

so question.. been almost a month and ALOT of my hair has come out of the dreads. i know they loosen up, but i've had most of my bottom layers fall out entirely and random chunks of hair come out of my other ones. i have no problem with just leaving it and seeing how it goes, but will the little little little sections dread up too? or will they just stay unknotted.. again i don't really care, i'm just curious.
