Mar 12 2000 Pope John Paul II asks God's forgiveness for the many wrongs committed by the Roman Catholic Church. The pardon he requested divided into seven categories of Church sin, including sins against the Jews, against native peoples of the world, the crimes of the Inquisition, and general crimes against humanity. This pardon was requested only for past sins, and apparently does not apply to the Church's many ongoing sins.
http://www.sacredheart.edu/pages/12654_pope_john_paul_ii_asks_for_forgiveness_march_12_2000_.cfm They do not name anything specific. Whatever news source you got that from obviously has it's own bent.
The Murphy report and the Ryan report is all I have to say on matters regarding the church..sick fucks, the deserve to be shot.
From your own link, VI. Confession of Sins Against the Diginity of Women and the Unity of The Human Race Sins against the dignity of women, that's half of the worlds population and sins against the unity of the human race just seals the deal. I find it funny that cardinal Arinzine was the one to make the most stern apologies meanwhile the "holy father" simply sticks mainly to the "we can all heal from this with Christ on our side schtick". VII. CONFESSION OF SINS IN RELATION TO THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS OF THE PERSON Of course they shit all over the womens right to choose while "confessing there sin" and while going into a paranoid bio tech rant about the possibilities of stem cell research fetus's never mention the death penalty, typical in my opinion.
But they have no qualms with child abuse? Priests condemned by the Ryan Report are still part of the diocese. A sick and twisted organisation, the amount of abuse that was covered up is disgusting. When will the Pope "take the rap" for that?
I wonder why the people who picket abortion clinics (and occasionally murder the doctors who operate them) don't also picket death sentencing the nights they are carried out?
Public schools are sick and twisted too then? Other reports found the same process of moving teachers was in the system as well. Old news, get over it.
Its not old news. The Ryan report was at first, set to be a small, unpublicised document concerning the few cases of child abuse in the Catholic church. The huge amount of disgusting stories that emerged from it turned it into a huge controversy which the church has tried to brush under the carpet since. Also, to shit all over your statement. Most public schools at the time were run by the church in Ireland which is where a majority of these instances happened. Nearly every community in Ireland has been affected by the continuing shocking stories that are still being uncovered. A close family friend of ours was directly affected by this. So no, I wont "get over it". Hundreds of families all over the country can never "get over it" so go back to your fucking church and continue to support these corrupt scum.

In fact, officials often denounce the killings. Catholics have (or should have) a deep respect for all life.
And you will find that he never said they did, and you completely ignored the fact that Bad.Fish just owned your ass. If you are going to preach your bullshit, at least answer to the arguments put forth against it (and not just the ones you made up).
Is the Catholic Church above the law? They never report priests and turn them over to the authorities for prosecution for sexual crimes done to young boys. In most countries, failure to report a serious crime that you know about is also a serious crime. In the USA, that is a felony, punishable with fines and serious prison time. Why aren't American district attorneys going after high-ranking Catholic Church officials for perpetrating a large-scale cover-up? There is nothing in our constitution pertaining to separation of church and state that gives church leaders immunity from these laws.
Well the Catholic church had more jurisdiction over the general public than the government did up until the 90s, since then, church power and church support has decreased incredibly, especially with all the abuse being uncovered now. Its too late for any of these priests to be tried though and understandably, the families involved just want it to be put to rest instead pf dragging it through a lengthy court case which would bring all those unwanted emotions and pain brought to light again. I have no problem whatsoever with Catholics, their religion and their beliefs. If someone can find a higher meaning to life than more power to them. Its just when a criminal organisation tries to represent these beliefs with their own twisted perogative in mind that I draw the line, to defend these scumbags, these sick fucks, is to completely shit all over the religion they represent. The pope is, as far as Im concerned, one of the most dangerous people alive at the moment. The proof of this is the hundreds of priests still servicing in parishes which have been uncovered as child abusers. The church is purely an organistion centered on power and money. Anyone who thinks differently is a fool.
some verses from the Quran, that is relative (33) O you who believe! Verily, there are many of the (Jewish) rabbis and the (Christian) monks who devour the wealth of mankind in falsehood, and hinder (them) from the Way of Allâh (i.e. Allâh's religion of Islâmic Monotheism). And those who hoard up gold and silver, and spend them not in the Way of Allâh, -announce unto them a painful torment. (34) On the Day when that will be heated in the Fire of Hell and with it will be branded their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, (and it will be said unto them):-"This is the treasure which you hoarded for yourselves. Now taste of what you used to hoard."[] (35)
Not in the USA, unless they are dead. There is no statute of limitations on felonies. At this point, I'm more interested in seeing the ongoing cover-up get investigated. The extent of the corruption needs to be uncovered. I think the intentions of the previous pope were mostly good. I never had a good feeling about this guy. Most of us Southerners only observe the Catholic Church from a distance. The percentage of Catholics is low here, so their power and influence is very limited.
Well up until the 90s the Catholic church had more sway over the public than the government did in general. It is being thouroughly investigated now though, the Murphy report uncovered accounts of the rape and abuse of over 300 children just in the Dublin archdiocese which holds 4 arch bishops respnsible for the cover up of paedophile priests from 1974 to 2004. The 700 page report preceded the Ryan report which uncovered the vicious abuse throughout schools (more prominent and sytematic in boys schools). The garda commissionner played an equal role in attempting to brush it under the carpet. Now that its in the public light though, they wont have the option to do that and I think that a lot more cases are going to be revealed over the next year. As for priests getting tried, many of them will more than likely get sent over seas to "serve" the church, I cant see any of them getting charged anyway. The church and the gardaí know that any priest convicted and jailed would be murdered within a week of being inside...not such a bad thing if you ask me but the church arent prepared to let that happen.
Not true. The states all have prosecutorial limitations on felonies (though they vary from state to state). Only capital crimes have no limitations. I agree that the cover-up is felonious, but I question just how 'horrible' the original act of seduction actually is. I have to believe that it was consentual in most cases, and that all the noise about sex destroying their lives is simply hype for profit and attention. What child, or adolescent, hasn't been approached, 'touched inappropriately,' etc.? What do most of us do? We say, "no thank you," "bugger off," or something along that line, and there's the end to it; unless dealing with the very rare rapist. Any kid that gives in to it, especially on repeated occassions, and says not a word to anyone, is a kid having a good time--albeit with attendant guilt. But, the guilt gets conveniently transferred to the "evil" adult. Sex feels good, even to children. NS (Needs Sex)
This wasnt fucking consentual. This was systematic corporal punishment and rape. There was nothing consentual about anything that happened in any of these cases. One girl, a 4 year old girl, was raped by a priest with a crucifix while she screamed and cried. If you believe any of the cases uncovered by the report was in any way consentual then you really have no idea just what happened. Read the Murphy report before saying something so ridiculous next time.
