Hey, I'm trying to get rid of, or at least, improve my acne. I don't know how much of a link there is between diet and acne but I was wondering if anyone here had any advice or experiences to share about which foods could aggrivate or improve acne. Thank you
Yes yes of course there's a link. I believe that an overburdened liver is to blame for increased sebum production. This is why people cite stress and hormones as causes of acne, because they impair liver function. The liver then compensates by purging toxins from the body through the sebaceous gland. People who have bad livers but never get acne simply don't have an overactive sebaceous gland in case you're wondering. For those who do have an overactive sebaceous gland there are many things that can be done to help. In my experience what you should avoid are foods high in omega 6 fatty acids and highly glycemic foods. Learn about the glycemic index and learn to minimize your daily glycemic load. I'll tell you right now that highly glycemic foods are ones high in carbohydrates. This includes basic sugar and complex carbohydrates found in grains. You'll want to minimize your intake of sugar, bread (even whole wheat), cereal (especially cereal), potatoes (both sweet potato and regular, but especially regular) rice (yes even brown rice. It's all glycemic), legumes, and some fruits like bananas, apples, etc. I find that eating these things in combination with low glycemic vegetables and lemon water reduces their impact on your blood glucose. Foods that are high in omega 6 fatty acids include vegetable oil (found in far too many things), soybeans, nuts, meat (although meat isn't so bad), alcohol, etc. Things to help your liver include teas, in my experience green tea (but not really black), white tea, chamomile, rooibos and some others are excellent for your liver. Lemon water on an empty stomach and with bread is a good idea, good nutrition including supplements like omega 3 fatty acid (counters omega 6 and will provide a world of other benefits, zinc, selenium, calcium and magnesium, exercise (hugely important for purging toxins and healing skin). The most useful thing I've found is liver strengthening tinctures and herbal extracts. You'll want to start taking Milk thistle and Dandelion root. These herbs will not only help the liver repair itself but make it stronger so you can have a buffer against eating things that burden the liver. If you even make somewhat of an effort to do these things I can almost guarantee reduced acne. This site is amazing for telling you the nutritional facts of food so you can avoid food high in omega 6 and foods with a high glycemic index/load www.nutritionfacts.com
When I was little my mother always used to tell me junk food like chocolate and candy caused acne, but I later found out it didn't. For me, stress is the major cause of my acne, which ends up in a never ending cycle because I stress more because I stressed to begin with. It's horrible.
meat and dairy gives me acne. but im vegan now so it's all cleared up. it used to be horrible all over my back and chest.
When I was a teenager I had acne, it's a terrible thing. Diet is important sure enough. Drink plenty of water for starters. Food wise there are things like seeds (Pumpkin, for example), and fruit and vegetables. Sometimes I used to even make face packs with the foods. Egg whites are a good example. They always helped manage the skin, leave it soft and oil free. This whole thing about chocolate being bad for skin is not true. But don't think indulging in crappy processed foods will make no difference, you are what you eat. And drink. Avoid drinking to much alcohol.
I never really got acne, and I think diet has a lot to do with it. People will say really vague things like "Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day to keep acne away!", but really that will just make you piss all the time. I just do what seems simple: don't poison yourself (too much). I rarely smoke, rarely drink, and rarely ever drink sodas... while there's people even my age still getting terrible acne and not knowing why.
Stress gets me too! also my moontime ;0 Plenty of water is very good, minimize sugar and crappy carbs, vitamin A and E are supposed to be really good. It looks like it affects everyone differently, maybe everyone has trigger foods that their skin doesn't agree with. I think diet helps but does not cure. I also think you need to wash you face with stuff for sensitive skin, i used to use acne face wash but that just dried it out and made it more oily then I started to make my own with minimal ingredients and its great! Acne is a horrible thing, I hope you can heal it naturally! peace.love.light
Peanuts, chocolates, and oily foods because I think they're transformed by your body and store them up to your fatty tissues and increase your sebum secretion.
I regularly took vitamin e before as I know it's good for the skin and I happen to also have frequent breakouts before. But I've read that Vit. E can aggravate oily skin and I noticed that, since then I stopped. I don't know, maybe it works differently on people.
It is diet 100%.. When I am eating 'clean' I have no bad skin at all.. If i ramp up my sugar intake even with fruits, I will start to get spots. It is as simple as this. Another way you could look at it is like this.... Do you think pimples are something on your skin, trying to get in? or something inside of you, trying to get out through your skin?
