green day - american idiot

anyone else have this album? its pretty nice and has new styles for green day

Lead singer Billie Joe has a comment for every other band. He should look hard at his own.

Sorry dude. They were the FIRST poser punk band. I can't like that. I've heard their new single, and it sounds like the rest of the jargon they've released.

 

I kinda like green day. it's alwyas been punk rock which means little, which is alright by me, and now they're starting to make songs which mean something more.

Having heard the first two singles from the album, I gotta say that it doesn't sound too bad, but I'd rather listen to dookie.

 

I loved Greendays album dookie and I really like their new one American Idiot...the song boulevard of broken dreams means a lot to me..they were one of my fav bands and I think I'll always like them

Yea im sorry but what gives anyone the right to judge a band and say they are posers. Now im not the biggest greenday fan but yes i do like their stuff. and ACTUALLY a lot of their old songs have political meanings. They are comments on society and media these are all pollitical issues, they have their own way of getting their thoughts across.
What people dont like is that they can do this and be FUN at the same time, they dont take themselfs too seriously and thats cool. People are the same about Offspring, big fucking shit, they got fameous for playing cool fun good (and meaningful) music. If that makes the posers or sellouts then hey why not knock down Hendrix, beatles and every other famous fucker out there?

 

...*ahem* ...and coming back on topic a bit yea the new albums great, really good. Better than the last few albums, id say its up near Dookie level.

 

I have this album and it fucking rocks!! I think Homecoming was a bit OTT but thats like my only criticism of the entire album.....the rest of it rocks. My fav song on it at the moment is holiday.....its a really good example of what 'Fleassy' was on abt....they are political and yet fun at the same time - and its just a really cool, and frankly brave, song for them to do.

well , the thing is with green day, billie joe armstrong has said some things about all these pop-punk bands out there now, pretty much stating they are all poseur bands. well, he is hypocritical in fact, because I would have to say Green Day fits the same mold, and started the trend.

green day is a bunch of hypocrites and poseurs, and to say anything different is just silly. no band can claim they are punk if they sign to a major label and appear on trl and mtv. seriously.

 

Yeah, if they become sucessful, they're fucking sellouts.

 

the thing is with the beatles, hendrix and these other bands....... they werent pretending to be punks. punks are against capitalism and trends and mainstream. and once you sell out to a major label, you are pretty much going against what you are promoting in the first place not?

and if there was a band worse than green day, that would be the offspring.

 

i personally think green day is awesome for not caring about all the other punk bands in the industry calling them sell outs and such, theyre just out there doing their thing..major props for em

 

werent the beatles all about anti-capitalism? ...werent they ALSO pop stars? (pop = popular culture) ...werent they also as far as the way society perceives them the westlife or boyzone of their time? adored by hundreds of girls who didnt have a clue what their music was about?

How often do you hear an unknown band and think "i really wish people could hear this band.... hear what they are saying" .....if that band then got big by signing a record deal to make a living from what they enjoy.... would you not then accuse them of exactly what you are accusing greenday of being?

And as far as them calling other "pop punk" bands posers.... well look at Busted...Mc Fly ..... im sorry but these are boys singing about wanting to screw their teachers and about going to school discos.... thats the kind of bands you should be focusing your angst on.

And to judge a band by the opinions of the singer if stupid, there are many bands whos music i enjoy but that doesnt mean i have to agree with what the singer talks about off stage.

To THEN ALSO basically imply that we are WRONG for likeing greenday because they are "posers" is you forcing your opinions on us and making us feel BAD for LIKING something. .... Shit i like walking barefoot... does that mean that when everyone else tells me im stupid and foolish for doing it because shoes are so much better that i am WRONG?! NO its their OPPINION! we are all entitled to an opinion. Next time you decide to slag off something do me a favour and make sure you put that this is just your opinion and not try and make people feel ashamed to like something just becuase you have a different taste to them.

I think most of you who called Green Day Poseurs didn't listen to the album. Did you listen to Jesus of Surburbia, Holiday, Boulevard of Broken Dreams? I can see why you would be turned off by the album if you only listened to the song American Idiot because it's not even close to the best song on the album.

Personally what I think of the album is a Green Day that is much more mature 10 years since they released Dookie. It's definitely their best since Dookie, it's different but better.

 

yeah idk why theres always people out there who bash bands... if you dont like something silly like music, dont complain about it. just listen to whatever you like, and ignore what you dont like. i think green day is nice cause they express themselves, what real music is. theres a lot better music out there than green day, but i think there really nice, especially some of the stuff on their new album

 

yeah jesus of suburbia, holiday, are we the waiting, give me novacaine, wake me up when september ends are all nice songs... all you people who think otherwise... try listening to them first
