mind you, i wouldn't. i'm perfectly content not being topless. i won't even go out without a bra on under a sweatshirt. i have nightmares about wandering around without a shirt on.

 

on the one hand, it seems like a reasonable cause.

on the other hand, it sounds like the lesbians involved didn't even understand the situation.

she knows damn well that society isn't at that point, because women have been hiding their chests for centuries now.

if society did have the same reaction, this whole protest would have been moot.

what the fuck will this accomplish? make an even bigger scene and expect it to decrease attention? i know when i'm shirtless and someone looks at me i normally punch them in the face.

 

It's perfectly legal here for ladies to go topless at the beach and anywhere else a man could normally get away with it

In my town, a woman can be topless as long as it doesn't cause any kind of public uproar. But of course, it would cause an uproar because men seem to be unable to control themselves if they get near naked breasts.

part of it is instinctual. Human males are genetically predisposed toward attraction to particular curves and geometric configurations.

BUT, more of it is socialized into us than genetic/instinctual. In places where women routinely wander naked or topless, men still have the same attraction to womanly curves but they don't have assloads and handbags of sexual repression that make them go apeshit and act like an ass.

 

BBad-instinct is one thing--falling all over themselves stupidly,taking pictures and generally making fools of themselves,not to mention making the ladies uncomfortable is un-acceptable to me. But it's not me,so hell with it. Again--the way of the world.

I lived in the jungle on the big Island of Hawaii back in '72. Most of the hippies,men and women, that lived around me went without clothing most of the time. After a day or two, nudity was not even thought about or noticed. It just became a non issue. We saw each other as just other people and looking back on that time--it seems to have been quite an accomplishment,given the society we came from.

 

Yeah, when I go to festivals around here women go topless all the time and no one pays any attention really. Everyone just continues about their business and if someone is leering or acting stupid, then other people call them on it. It is actually quite nice.

 

As it should be. Country Fair here in Eugene is a good example.
