My mom sais she doesn't mind dreadlocks 'when they look like they're done properly' she's seen mature dreadlocks at the airport! lol..and online. I'd love for my dreads to look that beautiful but they're only 24 days old and they're just coming around. I guess I kind of feel like I didnt do it right?? but only because of that comment. I sectioned and backcombed, and I rip them when they part at the top. Some of them are actually starting to knot nicely but of course they dont look like mature dreadlocks, not yet. I'm patient. but what should I say to my mom to explain to her that it's a long process?
Dont count the days, make the days count. The journey IS the destination. Its not about getting sweet looking dreadlocks, its about the process of locking and becoming one. Leave your head be, shower when your hair gets greasy. Patience is a virtue, fuck explaining anything, its just hair.
So she changed her mind then. Wasn't she going to throw you out of the house if you were going to have them?
My mom was the same way, she set up rules for me about dreadlocks, they have to be professionally 'done', maintained, etc, but I explained to her how the process works, and that they will look shit for a while, and that I'm alright with that. Plus, it was her shelling out $$$ for poo locks, or awesome dreads for free! She naturally went with the free way.
say, "mom, it's a long process" seriously though. tell her it takes a while and that you're aware of that and comfortable with it. tell her you have done a lot of research about how hair dreads and how to care for dreads, and tell her that you are very well aware of the possible effect that dreadlocks may have on your employability etc and you're willing to deal with it.
Still haven't see a pic of your dreads! :toetap05: My dreads are at 9 months and still look like a mess.
I feel like mine will look like a mess forever, (I mean what is the point in trying to make knotty hair look tidy?) and my mom accepted that and she wouldn't change my hair if she had a choice
Lock her in a room for 2 years and feed her lentils and beans once she comes out shell appreciate your hair
Could she be saying things like that to make you think yours are no good and then maybe you'll get rid of them.....
I think you should take the advice that's in your sig...if your at peace with yourself and with the decision to have dreads then why give a fuck what your mum thinks? obvisouly it takes a good bit of time to get mature dreads so she'll have to wait a bit till she's happy. it's not her head! my parents never wanted me to get dreads and don't like them much but I don't give a fuck and ignored what they said because I was at peace with my own decision. Now they'd never say anything about them,,,girl you need to forget about your hair..
