"The earth is my body. My head is in the stars." It is from my favourite film, Harold and Maude. I am thinking about getting it as a tattoo, because the film means a lot to me, for many reasons. I just wanted to know what your thoughts were on this quote. Thanks Blessings xxx
I guess it is more important that it means a lot to you! You will have it forever so if that is something you want as a tat for that long, then
Thanks I know, the film the quote is from completely changed my life, as did the character who said the quote. So it has great meaning for me, the film reminds me of the beauty of life so the quote epitomizes this feeling for me. I was just curious as to how others may perceive it. Blessings xxx
Well, we all know the earth, and we known when we are on the earth we are 'grounded' so to speak so I think it's saying the person talking believes their body, or their person, is in the reality of their life- but their head is in the stars and by this possibly meaning fantasy. I reckon that because quite obviously the 'stars' are unknown and otherworldly to us, and far enough away as this person believes they can be when they day dream. But then I haven't seen the film, so have no context of the character. But my guess is they have an active imagination. Just a guess, as you asked somebody to. That was hard work!
I have to agree, the earth has often represented "hard reality" and the stars the immortal playground of the Gods. So i agree with the contrast between living in reality and still being able to dream.
that was really accurate! I know what it means to me but its nice to hear what others think of it. Thanks for taking the time to write that. I highly recommend the film by the way. Thanks again.
