I haven't posted a new post on here in a while but I've had some strange recent medical things happen to me and need some advice.

So a few weeks ago, I went to the ER with terrible stomach pains. After having a mess of tests done on me, I was told I had a large cyst that grew on my right ovary and fallopian tube. The only reason they found it was because it had twisted the ovary and tube and it hurt like hell. So long story short, I had my right ovary, tube, and the cyst removed.

I went back to see the doctor who performed the operation and he told me that the biopsy on the cyst came back as being borderline malignant. He recommended me to an oncologist. I went to the oncologist yesterday who basically said as I walked in that I was fine. He did a really, REALLY quick "internal" on me, literally put his fingers in, out and said "You're fine. Go live your life."

Then they charged me $250 (they wanted $500) out of pocket because I have no insurance. I feel robbed.

The oncologist did the same exact thing as my other doctor did the day before. Why did I go to an oncologist if he was just going to do a poor version of an internal on me and say I was fine?

I know I should be rejoicing that he says I'm cancer-free, but there's something I just don't feel great about. I don't understand WHY he thinks I'm cancer-free. I thought they were going to at least do some bloodwork. They didn't even have my pathology report there!

I'm a completely healthy 26-year-old who has no immediate family history of cancer, yet this thing just creeped up on me and I wouldn't have even known it was there had it not twisted. So what's to say there's nothing else lurking about?

I was just wondering if anyone here had any similar experience or knows someone who has. Should I just be ok with what the oncologist said, or should more be done? I can't really afford to shell out $250 every time a doctor wants to JUST do an internal on me and send me on my way.

    Thanks!

Hopefully you are alright. Hemp oil kills cancer.

I'd ream the doctor a new asshole if the charged my 500 dollars for a visit and he barely did his job. Go back and demand blood work. If I were you I'd look up some things to have your doctor check for. Things that cause your symptoms.

And...it's reasons like this that posting shit online is worthless and why I rarely do it.

I'm sure I'm fine, so thanks for the well wishes. And wow, way to find the cure for cancer, dude. Congrats. If only...

    :)

Haha well everyone seems to think they are a doctor. Just keep an eye on it. You should check for a planned parenthood around your area. I get exams for free.

Well- give the kid a break... he was trying to be supportive and may not quite realize how justifiably pissed off you are.

First off, you were charged for services that appear not to have been performed. I'd request an itemized bill if one hasn't been given and look at each item you're being charged for and question whether the service listed had been performed.

Second, See whether you can get an appointment for a thorough exam to ensure that what appears to have been a dismissive, flip diagnosis is indeed correct. If what you're relating is true you have every right to be concerned about your condition. What the referral saw was a lack of dollar signs and would appear to be an effective denial of services based on your resources. Take down and keep in a safe place all the information... names, dates, itemized bills, etc., related to this sequence of events for possible future legal action.

You have every right to feel robbed and disrespected.... and subjected to arrogance at the hands of a profession that has become blatantly bottom line oriented at the expense of services rendered. These types of stories need lots of press and air time to counter the BS that this is the "best health care system in the world".

Thanks stinkfoot :) I wasn't trying to be rude to the kid. I do appreciate any support.

Yeah, everything I related is absolutely true. I feel like I'm probably fine, but I don't feel confident in that with how I was treated. I've been making some phone calls. Hopefully something positive comes from all this.

    Thanks everyone.

artist, I had that same surgery in 1969, at age five MONTHS.
I have been cancer free for many years (although I have basal cell carcinoma on one had...completely unrelated as you can see)
so, do call up and ask how the determination was made.
my guess is the amount of tissue taken at the surgery is a large part of the answer.
ask how often you will need a check up in the future.

look into a new doc if these answers are too far short.

and heal well, body and soul.
