I was with a friend the other day and I guess I was shaking a little cause she said something along the lines of "You need to listen to your body, boy" Not gonna go into specifics, but she had a point. I'm more of a cerebral-oriented person. I'm just stuck in my head so much I think I'm kind of detached from my body. I never really thought about it but a good amount of the time I just feel uncomfortable. And I don't know why. What's a non-gay way to be more in tune with that stuff?
ok i have no idea what you mean by "non-gay..." but.. learning to meditate and focus on your breathing is one of the easiest ways to learn how to listen to your body. the breath connects the mind to the body. popular buddhist thought anyway. i found it to be true in my personal experiences. you could also try taking a couple minutes throughout the day to consciously evaluate how you're feeling.. close your eyes and take notice to how your body feels, does anything hurt, does anything feel tense, etc.. try this when waking up and also when going to sleep good luck
Ummmm.... I have a similar problem and if you are as severe as me (I do some weird shit) this new age holistic shit barely seems to work for me. I don't know what your symtoms are but possibly some medication if the meditation doesn't work. I enjoy meditation and I think it does help calm and center my mind but I have some physical symptoms that border on disorder which I don't think any amount of meditation will help.
press play. can't guarantee it'll be non-gay. :smilielol5: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csRnuekqeeM"]YouTube- Benny Benassi - My Body
I agree with DazedGypsy, breathing is a good way of getting in tune with your body. You don't have to listen to music or chant, but can sit silently and focus on breathing. Even ten minutes of this makes you feel better and more in tune.
In all forms of yoga, breath is not only a cleanser it is life force. It is what gives energy to the body and the mind. The most basic of breathing is to always breathe through the nose and to imagine that your stomach is a balloon. When you inhale your tummy should expand and when you exhale it should contract. We in the west do not breathe this way. We are born breathing this way and society tells us that we should not do so by example. Watch a baby breathe and copy that. It is amazing how just breathing is a center for most people.
Traditional meditation may not be for you. Try an alternative like running. Here the body is challenged to perform. You work at the extremes of its ability and need naturally to listen to your body. Facing the challenge of running without collapsing is the one-pointedness aspect of meditation. The meditation of the runner. Can apply to any physical activity where the activity takes you on a journey. Using running as an example. Run as if you are a cheetah not a hippo. I can beat that other runner who is in difficulty I am better than him/ her. I flow across the ground with the lightest of footfalls. Take the physical running into the mind. Reach a lamp-post, run as fast as you can to the next lamp post then cruise to the next, then run fast to the next.
The reason chanting or singing works is because it is breath control. To relieve anxiety, extend exhalation. This is a physiological phenomena, not a belief. You can rely on the practice any moment you sincerely desire relief. Relief is not always our first choice in the face of responsibility, excitement, or expectation. I think you are aware of your body but choose to ignore it.
Not exactly to sure if that vid was really relevent, but whatever, Benny is tight ive only seen him once though
Physical exercise. There is no other way. It could be meditation, it could be sports. Preferably both....music/dance.
