film: o brother, where are thou rating: 8/10 star: George clooney I watched this movie yesterday and found it entertaining. George clooney as well as two actors (who I do not know) play fugitives who are initially shackled together heading through 1920/30's Mississippi in search of a purported treasure. The movie is essentially just a constant adventure with a thin plot but constant action and mild humor to keep the audience entertained. Along the journey the fugitives encounter numerous people that either aid or become roadblocks to their destination. Some of the most notable are a black guitar player who sold his soul to the devil and end up making a hit record with clooney and his companions, a crazy bank robber who shares his money with the guys but eventually has a bipolar swing and no longer cares to stay on their journey, some seductive sirens, and john goodmans character who is a KKK member sporting an eyepatch who initially appears to be an ally before beating up clooney and one of the other fugitives. The interaction between the fugitives(main characters) and periphreal Characters who keep reappearing throughout the movie, make this movie interesting and worthwhile. There was nothing that I really disliked about this movie except that George clooney doesn't have the best southern accent but I didn't like it enough to want to see it again.
Did you check out how much it relates/steals/etc from the Odyssey? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O_Brother,_Where_Art_Thou%3F Good ol' questionable but generally interesting wikipedia.
I was going to say that too. Also check out Old and in the Way's (Jerry Garcia's Bluegrass Band) rendition of "Man of Constant Sorrow." Peace Out, Rev J
I still can not get through this movie. I'm normally a big fan of Coen Brothers movies, but I've been watching this one in 40 minute increments because I just get bored with it. I don't really like any of the characters, the plot seems strung out. I do dig the 'Man of Constant Sorrow' scene
I love the Coens and have for years thanks for my nutty relatives And I think this film is wicked. It does seem strung out but it needs to be watched more than once. Clooney and Turturro are fantastic as always, and there's some typically good dialogue. I'm a Dapper Dan man!
