George W. Bush is Satan. It's a wonder he didn't try to use some of those executive orders to stop the last election, so he could stay in power.

You realize the executive orders being listed were in fact not from Bush and from 40 years beforehand right? These are from the Kennedy administration in 1961, somehow I'm willing to bet it was during that good ol Cuban missile crisis where the threat of nuclear war happening was minutes away, and executive leaders, at least good ones, take action for that possibility.

good call syd. Its a very complicated issue and a slippery slope. They not only have the right, but are responsible for our safety in conflict.

Yet abuse is possible as well

Yup. If people don't understand why drastic reserve powers like that were created in a time like that, they don't fully understand what the consequences of nuclear war means. The point of government is to ensure the continuity and functioning of government. And despite the raging hard on some people have here for the idea the federal government is just going to randomly declare a state of emergency next time a terrorist blows up a building and institute the fourth reich, all it shows is a complete lack of understanding of politics.

Did you know when you posted it that it was from the JFK years?

I can't think of a US president other than Bush that I would worry about abusing that kind of authority. The others would be too concerned about being remembered as the worst President ever.

The most likely scenario I can think of for needing to use these orders would be terrorist use of a nuclear or biological weapon. However, some of these powers were used during the flood in New Orleans. It still wasn't enough to maintain law and order.

I think the word is inalienable, and while it is found in the Declaration of Independence, I don't think it appears anywhere in the Constitution or Bill of Rights.

    In what state is Ontari-airy-o?

That's what I thought, but that would mean you don't have a dog in this race.

    Date: Easter Sunday, 2014

President Obama was notified at 10:30 am today of a nuclear missile headed toward Houston, Tx. from Iran. That missile was safely destroyed at sea. In the following two hours President Obama tried to convene Congress for a vote to wage war against Iran and destroy their missile sites. Congressional approval is now needed for the president to take such action since the Tea Party took control of both houses in the 2012 elections and stripped the President of what they called "excessive powers."

During the two hours following the first strike, frantic attempts were made to contact members of Congress without success since they were all in their respective churches praying to God for his blessings on this nation. As our major cities were destroyed, one by one, the President was forced to watch as America was brought to her knees.

By the time church was over, all the few remaining Tea Party Congressmen could do was agree to Iran's "Conditions of Surrender." Praise be to Allah.
