Happiness isn't something that just happens it's something you work for. You have to want to be happy. Self loathing and sadness is too easy. Trying to be happy with everything that is going on in this world takes effort. Those of us who strive for happiness in everything that we do. Will be happy.
Sorry to disagree, but if you want happiness, quit trying. You can't buy it, you can't find it, you can't will it and nobody is going to give it to you. It's yours for free, right inside your own mind, it has always been there. .
What about the problem of moodiness in one's Self-consciousness, as opposed to comparing possible material composite bits and parts for becoming resolved to.... defeat the enemy? It's not all weapons keeping us in distinct minds of subjective sovereign consideration for one's self-determination of having and doing.
i think the most apparent flaw in your theory is the false dichotomy that what maturity does is not in the moment and what immaturity does is "in the moment." it is possible to enjoy the more challenging pursuits while still "living in the now." i think more likely, immaturity fails to find a balance between focus in the present and indulgence in the present. whereas maturity seeks a balance between the two and is more wary of the pitfalls of stagnating life patterns, and the "feedback loop" of doing a lot of drugs.
Maturity finds that NOW is the only thing that exists for us; for good or for bad. We no longer have yesterday, and we will never have tomorrow. NOW is where we will always be. Any attempts to be anywhere but NOW will only cause stress. All we can do is navigate our SELVES through the highway of time. .
