Been wanting to make this thread for a while, I want to MOVE. and basically we have a diverse group of people from all over the world so i wanna know why is where you live awesome sauce. or if your current residence sucks why is it a shit hole. Those out of the states i am especially curious about(immigration policy ect). Chicago, Illinois, USA pros 1 diverse music scene (most notably underground, hip hop, blues, and indie rock) 2 public transportation system and bicycle systems are fucking money 3 people generally mind their own business 4 big city charm? 5 solid arts, museums, ect cons 1. expensive 2. retarded weather 3 geographically it is garbage ( no oceans or mountains pretty much flat) 4 lake michigan is dirty as fuckkk 5 cant smoke cigs anywhere, ever, no exceptions 6 cant legally smoke weed, and if you do decide to get caught chicago is home to the largest single site county jail in the US) 7 traffic fail 8 super urbanizationishness
God I'm going to get flamed Brummagen (Birmingham), England Pros 1 Good city centre shopping (if you like big stores) 2 Good train network 3 NIA / NEC big music venues 4 A reasonably big airport 5 Illustrious industrial / musical history 6 More canals than venice (apparently) Cons 1 North of the city / city center is a case of "spot the white man" 2 Most of unique shops / pubs / etc have been torn out the city centre to make way for developments 3 High unemployment 4 General post industrial shithole-ness 5 Widely ridiculed accent 6 Pretty much as far from the coast as you can get in the UK
haha sounds like not to far from where i live... i thought about england, mainly because i can already speak the language ,but from what i gather id have to marry a brittish lady to move there, or visa for x amount of time(expencive as fuck).. then extensions from there , unless there's like something different with the whole EU thing???
High Springs, Florida, USA pros- there are several nice springs it is close to gainesville which boasts the University of Florida which is a nice college cons- it is tiny dirty red neck not-really-a-city and is too far away from the beach to be a proper Florida city. and...the springs are quickly becoming really not nice at all. Yeah don't move here. Although I suppose I should really review Tampa for you because I technically live there and it is awesome.
<racism>I'm not a big shot immigration lawyer, but judging by the wave upon wave of welfare sapping workshy immigrants with no grasp of english nor any intention of ever integrating (or even leaving there place-of-origin specific ghettos) that line our streets, it's not too hard to get into england.</racism>
@sarah yea ive been to florida in different parts touristyish and not , its alright lot of old people , plus politically arent you guys fairly right (mostly due to the old people), plus dont you have like giant bugs there or something
In Florida you are either in a tourist filled city or the middle of nowhere. and yeah I would classify Florida as pretty conservative. Bugs are everywhere, currently it is love bug season so you can't really walk without several flying at your face. Then there are the mosquitoes, which get fierce in the the summer. If you live in a more undeveloped part of the state spiders are everywhere too, the nasty hairy sort. and ticks and etc, buuuuugs.
There from pretty much everywhere, well eastern europe, the middle east and pakistan. I couldn't give a fuck if they work and can make sounds that pass for english, it's the little ghettos they make for themselves that bothers me.
Im from chicago and miss the fuck out of it. Mesa Arizona: Cons: Sherrif Joe Arpaio (google that motherfucker) Jail= tent city, its army tents outside, pink handcuffs, pink underwear Get attacked by shit head chihuahuas everywhere you walk crazy meth heads cant go anywhere without being asked for change, or a cigarette illegals everywhere no jobs halfway house city of the world drugs. dirty drugs. Pros: nice weather. mountains. dont move here. the weather is pretty much the only cool thing, as of now. i dont want to be here when its 120 degrees....
You live on land that was stolen from Mexico of course their is going to be strong illegal population as with most southwest states
palmer, alaska pros: -nice, smallish town but still large enough population to not know everyone -surrounded by mountains and forest -farm community (might be considered a con depending on who's asking) -less than an hour away from Anchorage (the "big" city) -most people mind their own business -pot is legal in personal possessions of under 5 ounces, and there's a big movement to get it fully legalized again (used to be legal until the 80s or something). also i think there's something about being allowed to own pot plants as long as you're not selling or something :S -summer = 23 hours of sunlight a day. work on your tan, only time you'll get one. cons: -not much to do beyond outdoor stuff -if you're under the age of 30 and are not married, there are no singles -there's only 3 bars -Sarah Palin is less than 20 miles away -you have to drive to Anchorage to do ANYTHING (unless its grocery shop... we have those and plenty of small stores) -only college is a small community branch of Univ. of Alaska-Anchorage -huge tourist boom and shitty traffic in summer (only 2 lane roads.... as in one lane and then another lane opposite direction) -summer = construction. you will never get anywhere on time. -isolation- you either drive through canada to get somewhere or you spend at LEAST $500 on plane fare -winter. about 5 hours of daylight and lots of darkness and snow. -mosquitos and rain happen to occur very often in the summer. plus our mosquitos are giant and evil bastards! so.... i'd say think really really really hard before going 'oh alaska sounds like a lovely place to live!' although to be honest... i don't think many people even consider it as being lovely haha. we do have kick ass scenery though.
you probably don't want to live in MT so I'll Rep Oregon. Ashland, Oregon Pros: hippy-ish community neato little town on the side of some hills active art community good music, quite a bit of reggae I thinks. Oregon Shakespeare Festival... they put on very awesome live Shakespeare plays as well as some non-Shakespearean works. Lithia Park good restaurents Southern Oregon University Snowboarding and Skiing at Mt. Ashland Good hiking Organic market and nearby Farmer's Markets Cons: little bit expensive touristy because of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival not toooo much fast food here (could be a con i spose) a little hilly I don't think they have public transportation overall a good place to live. relatively happy people here that are a bit more open minded.
Hawaii: Pros: Ocean Beautiful Cops won't bother you good bud Surf School is laid back Cons: Meth heads Racism against whiteys(by some people) high prices Island is small
@pandy actually ive been strongly considering montana alaska seems to be winning and i think i would take tent city over cook county any day
Greensboro, NC: big metro area but, still has a small-town feel diverse (we have a lot of immigrants from latin america, eastern europe and africa which i consider a good thing) growing arts and music scene beach mountains growing liberal political scene relatively low crime rate standard of living isn't outrageous 5 colleges in one city neighbors other metro areas continuously growing economy (jobs are still available) one of the most bike friendly cities in the country one of the best zoos in the country nearby decent public transportation cons: humid and upper 90's in late summer racism corrupt police department growing population of unemployed and unoccupied youth (may have something to do with US economy) small homelessness problem small crack problem large income gap between citizens
