Music television was a cool idea, til they quit playing music. Thanks to the internet though, I can find out about better music than what they'd play on MTV to begin with. Imagine that!
this is my answer as well. for at least the last several years that they did play music, the music they played was not worth playing either.
MTV officially took 'music' out of its name a few months back. The Weather Channel is showing movies on Friday evening. TWC is also running a 'weather' show where they smash sheds with projectiles. Looks like their version of MTV's jackass. Most of the cable channels now look like the same stupid reality show. It has gotten really bizarre. Each channel is trying to increase it's audience from toddlers to 90 year olds and look like all the other networks. Advertising revenue for TV has dwindled in the wake of the popularity of the web, and the TV networks are desperately trying to eek out a little more ad revenue. .
The History Channel is trying to expand its audience. I've heard that their next slogan is: 'The History Channel. It's not just for white anglo-saxon protestants anymore.' .
