So how do you pronounce 'aluminum'? People in Britain and sometimes Russia say 'aluminium'. Those in the U.S. almost always say 'aluminum'. Hmm. .
I am British. I say it aluminium, mostly because that's how it is supposed to be said. I think the other way sounds so stupid It's called English for a reason, people
My partner pronounces it the British way, sounds so much more difficult to say when it is a word that is so easy to mess up period. Although he does it with others as well.so there you go. One of the most enjoyable dialect issues we have had is on going between Celtic in football and Celtic as the word.
People in Ireland say aluminium too and its not al-yoo  Like condominium but instead of condo its alu, (the u isnt long either) And what Ruski said
Well celtic mythology is pronounced K, dont know much about the team but know a good bit about the real celts
Haha, you mean the Welsh!?? We are two different kind of celts, Brythonic and Gaelic and we are the former. They stemmed from the South (Basque country, Gaul), are as far as people know (which no one really does!), the earliest celts came from the south and travelled the coast upward to Britain. This meaning of course, speculation truly does believe the Welsh are the real Celts of Britain, although not the oldest- I think the Picts and some unnamed tribes from Scotland hold that honor. But no one really knows- all I know is that the Irish are totally overrated Plus I am bilingual in Welsh and English (although my English is superior), that's proper Celt!!
The celts came to many countries. Its a bit of a grey area anyway, not too sure about where they came from but know of the history of the celtic druids. Some mad culture that was.
i say aluminium ever since i discovered that some people pronounce it this way. not to sound proper or anything, just because i can.
I actually prefer it as being pronounced as sell-tic. It is a great thing to tease him about though and I call it a Jamesism. Using the word any other way than football, it is pronounced as kell-tic. All the footballers and even the announcers do pronounce it that way and there is not one who can explain why.
Indeedy, they came from everywhere. They believe the good portion of it is the Basque, Gaul areas, Brittany and a bit of Scythia. But, as you right mentioned, no one really has a clue. They speculate now Celts originated perhaps from the East as well, so that basically covers most of Europe now Twas mad, and is insanely complex. It's interesting though. Bless be with the Irish anyways, you and I both have funny sound voices to Americans
