do you ever get any pain at your roots? My front 2 dreads are always flipped over this way then that way and either way the pull of them is realli sore at the root. I don't know if their too heavy/placed uncomfortably but wtf can I do?
I'm worried one will just fall off and I'll have to run away to an island and cry for a year. It feels like a bruise.
Also, I'm fucked off because these days my hair takes TWO DAYS TO DRY! So annoying sleeping with wet hair... I love my dreads and won't cut or nothing but they are a weight! When they're down they piss me off after a few hours because they get in the way and when they're up after a while it hurts my head. Maybe I'm just a pussy..

They are probably too heavy if they are hurting. If one of my dreads is sore at the root its usually because there is one or two hairs that are stretching the dread in the wrong direction, like out of its comfortable section, so I just rip those so they are out of the way and its feels better. But if it is your whole head they are probably getting too heavy- but I don't have anything that could fix this apart from trimming them :(

how are you drying your hair for them to take that long? you really want to try and avoid leaving them for so long otherwise over time they can being to smell bad when damp, from mold or mildew, what ever that jazz is, either way I would recommend not leaving them damp for that long.

I leave them loose, my effing hair dryer broke so can't use it but didn't like using it anyway, it just takes ages for the core to dry..they've gotten longer and are realli hard so guess that's why it takes so long. I wasn't able to go outside as much as I wanted today..the wind usually helps dry em but there was none today. Just still shitty cold air

I find a hairdryer by itself usually sucks, but what usually works is wrapping my hair in a big towel, and pointing the hair dryer in, usually only takes a couple of mins with a hot enough hair dryer and it dries all of the main body and tips of my dreads out pretty easy, and if they remain damp I like drop the towel down around my shoulders and shake my hair somewhere to get the excess whater out (the towel then stops me from getting wet from the shaking =]) and then another repeat with the hair dryer. Usually I'm far too lazy to dry them completely (I wash mine at night) so I just dry them as much as I can, and make sure the ones I'll be sleeping on are pretty dry and then rest sorts itself out while I sleep. Usually warm them up a bit with a hair dryer the next day just to sort of freshen them up after they've been all clumpy when slightly damp =]

I used to just towel and air dry but I had your problem....they would be still damp and heavy all through the next day, and then after a year of that they really didn't smell so fresh when damp, so I hated going out with them damp, so from then on I always made sure they were dry, and never had problems since.

my 2 front dreads feel that way at the root sometimes when i pull my hair back. i just grab them by the ends, hold them up, and do circular motions until the pain is gone.

but im pretty sure if you give it time it would go away on its own.

my dreads are only 10-11 months old sooo from experience, im not sure what to say about drying water logged dreads.

Maybe take out the fake hair extensions? I am sure they add weight and length...

I think that might not be a bad idea if you don't feel too bad about doing that.

As far as drying goes, I've never found a hairdryer to work very well with drying. I just squeeze them first with my hands. Then take a towel, preferably a microfibre towel, I think they absorb the water better and don't shed bits. Anyway, just squeeze them with the towel a lot. I repeat this quite a few times and then just leave them loose to dry completely. Once I've got most of the water out they're not that heavy.

It's hard to say how long it takes the core to dry, I reckon within about five or six hours they're pretty dry, depending on the weather and if I go outside or not.

But yeh, wet dreads are definitely annoying.:D

well it's just at the front two and they don't have any in atm..I think it's more about the placing reather than the weight if you get mee?

I'd love to but I have a cow slick so my hair pings! But maybe I'll try combign the front two out to have loose hair? I'm nervours to do that though, eek!

and thanks merrivale! hair dryers never realli worked for me either as they don't seem to get to the core!

    thanks guys :)

You only have two hair extensions in? I thought most if not all of your hair has some type of extension.

it's the baby hurrz at your forehead?? i found that if i pulled the dread apart at the root it would help loosen it... maybe that will help? mine hurt a lot too, they were too tight at the roots. I envy all the people who complain about their roots not dreading!

no,the pain from the root is from the front two and they haven't got extensions in is what I meant :) I took them out a week to see if it was the weight or something causing the problem but it's not because they barely weigh anything.

I'll try this, thanks! You must have super long hair for it to hurt <3

I'm gonna do that now :) my hairs is the same. It dreads so quick at the root. I barely have an inch of normal hair before it gets sucked up and dreadified. I think I may condition with coconut oil before my next wash and try and tease it out at the root

    thanks again bubuhs xx
