Why this?

I hate that grunge is considered a genre. The only band that was actually anything like Mudhoney (the band the term was coined for) that got popular was Alice in Chains, most other mainstream 'grunge' bands just had a song or two that seem to qualify to me.

 

I so remember seeing Alice in Chains, I believe they opened for monster rock with Slayer, but it was daylight when they came on. Slayer Played at night...

hmmm... I'd never heard of them before. They're defenatly better than nirvana though, but I'm not a huge fan of that style anyway, so I don't know that I'd ever listen to them.

I feel like that this whole style could have had a great place in the underground scene, and mabey created some good bands. But the fact that they went mainstream is just...

Thanks for mentioning them though, I never really relized there was good grunge before nirvana. If I listened to grunge, that's what I would listen to.
