Stupid question, I know. but just curious if there are any tropical parts of new zealand, something akin to its pacific island counterparts. thanks.
^ when i first read that i was like 'you mean the south of the south island?' but then i remembered. american education
Part of the tazman sea seem tropical... they kind of even look tropical. But when I was there it was pretty cold. Still beautiful. Just did a trip around the whole south island. Pound for pound I haven't seen a nicer country.
thanks for the responses. i was just curious. looks like I saw some palm trees in some christchurch photos, but yeah, looked more subtropical. looks like a beautiful country, can't wait to check it out one day.
Yeah chch can have some reasonably cold winters. Also our beaches always seem to be fucking freezing whenever I go to them.
Parts of NZ do have a sub-tropical climate or more properly a sub-tropical micro-climate. Karamea in the northern part of Buller. The Far North of the North Island. The Coromandel around Whangamata. Another place with a benign climate though not sub-tropical so much would be the Golden Bay. All of these areas are known for their lush vegetation. Gerald.
Around 50 miles off the coast of Auckland is 30 miles long with dozens of beautiful sandy beaches and coves that give amazing shelter in almost any weather. Port Fitzroy is a beautiful harbour, which is peppered with small bays and tributaries. The water is crystal clear with safe swimming and great fishing. Head ashore and do a four-hour walk inland to the hot pools.
