Hey guys...been dreading my hair and this is a question about them...please answer if you can. I heard beeswax is bad so I have not been using it on some but the middle of some of my dreads are knotty but not tight like the rest of my hair. i use my comb to back comb but its like it does nothing. should i just leave it be or what? peace and love.

Like Budda said-everything in moderation, including moderation. Using a lil wax to help em tighten up wont hurt-as long as your washin your hair every week or so. Try to find a fine tooth metal comb to back comb almost like a flea comb for your dog or something. Look @ www.dreadheadhq.com for some helpful tips...

I personally don't use beeswax, combs, or anything like that because for me it defeats the principle of dreadlocks, being the natural state of hair. I haven't messed with my hair except to wash it every week, and tear apart a couple of locks that are making friends. Give them a year or two, and the issues will resolve themselves.

Dont keep backcombing it brings youre dreads back to day one.

Oh and i wouldnt use the wax, heres some bad stuff that people have told me and happend to.

years to come chunks of your dreads can come off.It only happens to waxy dreads and over sea soaked dreads.

Greenish mould, water gets traped in the wax.makes your hair hard to dry.

    smelly dreads. :(

Blackish goo sqeezed out of dreads.oooooW

Lots more i cant remeber at this time, hope it helps. If you have to use it only a drop on each dread.aloe works alot better.

Just leave your hair alone and in time they will be amazing. ;)

    www.knottylocks.tk has lots of info.

Wax won't make it dread....if anything, it might keep them from dreading.

Just give it a little time.....they'll shape up soon enough on their own. :)

I totally agree w/ u...all natural is the way too go....i think putting them in ur hair so u will have them does defeat the purpose

I have been thinking about dreads for a while now. I have been washing my hair once a week and not brushing it and some of the hair is coming together, but I was wondeing about backcombing. I put dreads in my friend's hair and they looked wonderful...all neat and all, but I think putting them there defeats the purpose. Anyway, this is my question. Do you guys think that backcombing makes the "un-natural"? Also, would they be unnatural if I used all natural ingrediants and helped them along a little bit?

In my experience I've found that the hair is better at forming itself into locks than you are. When I put dreads in my first time (using backcombing) the locks got all tangled bad at the roots and were just a mess. . .now, because the locks have formed where the hair naturally divides itself, it's much more managable. I wouldn't reccomend using wax or any ingredients, "natural" or not. . .beeswax is "natural", but it's "natural" in a bee-hive, not in hair! ;) Just my opinion though
