(Value added tax) what percentage do you pay for things, our new dictator his highness Obama is talking about that now to pay for his health care that nobody wanted, so how much do you pay ????? Peace
VAT is essentially a sales tax. It is 17.5% and at most places is included in the price listed on the item (unless you are buying from trade shops). So, if something is marked at £10. You don't get to the till and then the VAT is added on top, it is just £10 and the VAT is included in the price.
I've never really took much notice of such things and certainly never realised that it's something particular to the uk but the other week i changed phone's and got a 24 mth. contract at £15 a mth. When the bill came it was, quell surprise, more than £15...the didn't advertise the v.a.t! Apart from that I've no idea what it is.
That would suck! Most contracts the VAT is included. Sounds like a bit of shady practice going on there. With companies like Virgin and Sky I know the monthly fee has VAT included. It was a bit of a joke when the VAT was decreased, as you'd get a few pennies off your bills (ooh, that's going to help so much!). Welcome to the forum, btw.
