Will there still be hippies 30+ years from now?

There always have been hippies, if not the stereotypical ones, and there will always be hippies.

Agreed. Stereotypical hippies will die out but the culture of drugs will remain.

Of course, there will always be hippies. A lot of people think that they died out because they live outside of society, which was a major goal of the original hippies in the first place. Hippies = Underground culture. Society = Mainstream culture. See how simple the resemblance is?

If you don't believe me, you should come to my hometown. Everything around here is local mom-and-pop owned shops, organic foods and clothing, peace signs hanging in the windows of houses, folk rock & reggae concerts, psychedelic art.. Y'know, just the stereotypical hippie jazz. Also, I don't have one friend in this town that hasn't experimented some sort of psychedelic at least once or twice.

And not to mention all the hippies you see around the country. Rainbow gatherings? Burning Man? Bonnaroo? The Whole Earth Festival? All of those Grateful Dead and Phish cover band concerts? Hippies are still here, you just gotta look a little harder.

Love can not stop being a goal for lots of people. Peace and kindness will not ever stop being a priority and a lifestyle. If the fashion's stuck around with lots of us for 40 years already, I think it's safe to assume it'll stick around for another 30! Hell yes hippies will stay!

Hippies will always be around, simply for the fact there will always be free-thinking pacifists around. As for the hippie culture as we know it? I belive that it will have a special place in society for centuries to come. Only time will tell...

Why do we feel the need to distinguish between "new" and "old hippies"? I have always felt that such distinctions create that division that creates what I have heard referred to as "hippie elitism". You know, that attitude of "more hip than thou". I'm not complaining I'm just pointing out that "hippie" is a media generated term that could not possibly define what is really going on in the hip world. The only reason I have used the word is because its easier I guess. Anyway, I hope that the kind momentum never slows. The bus came by and I got on, let's pull over at the gas station, fill it up with biofuel, grab some veggie chips from the mini mart and light another one! Keep on truckin'
