the thread about the royals gave me the idea for this thread. i liken the royals alot to celebs, as they do not really have much power or say these days.
but are they and celebs/footballers overpayed....does worth get mesured on how wealthy someone is?
is it good that some people have the means to highlight problems in their own country or in foreign ones....
what do u think about celebs adopting children from africa etc.....
wouldnt it be better to give money to "local" orphaniges?

Ooh the ones that go traipsing off to Africa to adopt children that they don't care about and won't care for are the worst, there money and time are better spent taking of children in there own countries..

    Peace

I ignore them. I seriously don't know who the vast majority of the celebrities people talk about are at all and don't really care. I tend to nod and smile as if I do know if I sense it's going to cause a "you DON'T read Heat!?" reaction. Um. Something about the woman who got breast implants and became famous who married the guy who had a crap 90s one hit wonder then divorced him then got with someone else and had lots of babies and snorted cocaine or something. What? Egg

  5. Celebs (in the loosest sense of the word) make me sick with their over payed "jobs" and their oversized egos. They or their agents see everything as some kind of publicity stunt. I know some do good deeds or give to charity clandestinely for want of a better word but the majority are publicity seeking twats!

  6. Has Ian gone to work on an egg and forgot to come back?

I'm guessing it was nasty because they were whiny overprivileged people?

Ah no I didn't know the thing about the jungle. A bit like Tarzan and Jane? I feel that little bit worse about myself

Most of this "celeb" culture is lowest common denominator stuff, promoted by the media. An excellent example was the late Jade Goody, you could only watch in amazement at the whole grotesque charade rolled by, to the funeral, followed by the autobiography [which, incidentally, was in the bargain bins within a few months.] And why was she a celeb ?

Come to think of it, what really was the difference between her and Princess Di ?

Apart from the fact Di's widower isn't up on a rape charge, of course.

Or as he PR advisor said: It'd look really compassionate if you were to cuddle this amputee orphan, I'll get onto the media and set up a photo session. How does "the People's Princess" sound ?

Both media whores, however you look at it.

i think that is a bit harsh....
maybe id really like to do all them things she did....would u call me attention seeking too?
its just alot easyer for "celebs", and no other royale has gone out of their way like she has...

It depends... would you want it splashed all over the media, or would you just quietly get on with doing it ? Therein, I think, lies the difference.

the media, is it good or bad.
i dont know if it is her fault that they oviousley thought she was of some intrest.
and funnylie enough, it was the media that killed her in the end.
i just think its was totally out of controll, she tried to use it for her advantage, but it was just an out of controll avelange.
i mean she got slagged of enough, even for her charity work.
wasnt she discribed as a loose cannon, and cloathes horse or something, but if shed have dressed down, it would have been oh, look at her...no win situation if u ask me...

I think some celebs get so much attention and money that they feel that they are more than just actors, singers etc. They feel the urge to do something they believe is right because they want to be looked upon as saints, some celebs adopt African orphans, some donate a tiny fraction of their massive wealth to charity. Either way, they're doing no direct harm. It would just be nice if they could look at themselves from the average persons point of view

The media is a monster that will eat its children, but you dont have to play that game, you have a choice, and I'm pretty sure she chose to play it.

Surely it was her socialite lifestyle that contributed to her death ? She had a choice about following that path, too.

she got called a loose canon for getting involved in the anti-landmine campaign. I think, if she was bumped off, then that'd be the reason why...TPTB wouldn't have known what else she was going to get involved in and knew she had enormous 'soft power'

i know, but that was hardley a bad thing...i mean would it be right to sweep the fact under the carpet, that men woman and children get theit limbs blown off left right and centre?
i think she was really into what she was doing, and it wasnt just a publicety stunt.
