http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/boycott-arizona "The State of Arizona passed SB1070. This law will call for regular police officers to request documentation from people to ascertain whether or not they are undocumented. This is racial profiling and discrimination, as the officers will be relying on the appearance of people to detain them. Many US citizens and residents will be wrongfully harassed and detained. We can vote with our dollars! Boycott the State of Arizona by vowing not to spend your vacation dollars in that state, whether that be by not engaging in tourism in Arizona, by not doing business within the state, or by not buying anything that comes from Arizona, (paying specific attention to corporations and businesses that support these mean spirited laws like SB1070, as well as, those supporting the likes of Sherrif Joe Arpaio and Senator Russell Pearce) until such a time that this law is overturned or ruled unconstitutional. Racial profiling and discrimination in any way, shape, or form, against any race or ethnic community, must not be tolerated. We must all stand together regardless of our racial and ethnic background. Immigration is a matter for the federal authorities to handle and should not to be delegated to the average police officer who is not trained in immigration law."
I'm sure that you've read the bill and aren't just spouting what you've heard from other people that haven't read the bill. Right? Of course you haven't read the bill or you WOULDN'T be spouting the same crap as every other kneejerk, vengeful reactionary out there. The contact portion of the bill is modeled on the Federal guidelines and has been in use in AZ. and just about every other state that has to regularly deal with illegal immigrants. You intellectually lazy people (including Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Martin Bashir and every other tool of the media machine) that keep saying that the cops can just stop anyone on the street should do a little background checking before showing your ignorance. The only way a cop can stop someone walking down the street is if the person has got a purse under his arm that he just snatched from a little old lady or is commiting some other crime. I'm sure that there will be racial profiling at times. Always has been...always will be. Not just in AZ...everywhere in the States. This law doesn't encourage it...or will it increase it...it's still illegal in AZ to racially profile. AZ isn't writing immigration law...it's writing laws to deal with illegal immigration. Trespassers in this country. Do you know that it's a felony to be in Mexico illegally? Do you ever hear the horror stories about US citizens in Mexico? The cops down there have been known to racially profile caucasians and Afro-Americans, taking their freedom, often their wallets (and shoes) and sometimes their lives. Yeah...join Mexico's possible boycott of AZ. Pot...kettle...black. Now...let's take a look at what a boycott will do. Who do you think is going to get hurt by a boycott? The politicians? No. The companies? Maybe a little but they'll write the losses off. Who gets hurt? The very people that you pretentious dullards claim to be helping...the people that work for the resorts or in the tourist industry. Jose and Maria. Bill and Beth. The poor people that are just trying to make a living in a tough economy. AZ has a 15% legal Hispanic population. How can a boycott NOT hurt these people. You take tax dollars from education for their kids...school lunches...daycare, all the things that get cut from the budget first. I'm thinking of starting a viral campaign to boycott CA because another thing that ticks me off is that people like Alec Baldwin, Susan Sarandon and other Hollywood types think that they are more "evolved" than the rest of the country and that their opinions therefore are more valid. Various intellectually vapid politicians from CA are talking about an AZ boycott. They haven't even given a second of thought about all the things I mentioned in the above paragraph outlining exactly who really gets hurt. Picture this: 62% of the people in this country are applauding AZ's desire to take our country back from criminals that on a daily basis are burglarizing, raping, invading the homes of, and murdering the citizens of our state. We just had ANOTHER police officer shot today (Friday) in a drug related traffic stop of illegals. Okay...so...62% of the people in this country join in on a boycott of CA produce. First the avocados etc. rot on the shelves because no one's buying. The stores stop buying from CA's farms and the produce rots there in the fields. The farms don't need people to pick the produce, pack it, or ship it anymore. Who gets hurt the most because of that boycott? The farms? The politicians? The state of CA? Wrong again if you said yes to any of these questions. The people that get hurt are the poor working man just trying to feed his family. What happens if those same people stop buying CA wines? Going to Hollywood movies? Vacationing in CA? Maybe if this CA boycott takes off these politicians that are posturing for political gain will come to their senses when they become aware of the anguished screams of their own impoverished populace. WAKE UP!!! People should think a bit about the Big Picture and the reality of how things work in this world before they start jumping on bandwagons like mindless drones. Mob actions throughout history have rarely produced good results.
You've been listening to Rush Limbaugh too long. Your knee is jerking quite well on its own, I would say. First of all, regarding your outrageous statement about crime ... illegals don't commit more crimes than anyone else, except for the drug runners. It's the drug runners who are the problem, not the illegals, as you yourself point out in the case of the sheriff's deputy. And what fuels the drug runners? Hmmm? Think about that for a second. This so-called "immigration" law was not designed to deal with the drug problem at all. It was designed as a way to appease the ultra-right-wing xenophobic racists who can't stand the fact that Hispanics have gained so much economic clout in the past generation. The Klan in business suits, that's what is going on here. Forget the illegals. Go after the drug runners. Even the Border Patrol will tell you they don't really care about the night-walkers who just want to make a better life for their families. It's the drug runners who turn the streets of Phoenix and Tucson into combat zones.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble but I'm no fan of Rush Limbaugh or anyone else that thinks that they can tell anyone else how to think. Once again, like all of you that don't know the scope of the problem, you make assumptions that have no basis in reality. Outrageous statement about crime? Who said that illegals commit more crimes than anyone else? I didn't. Another baseless allegation on your part. We have enough homegrown criminals that we don't have to, want to or need to import them from another country. Nope again. The problem with you people that immediately shout RACISM!!! at anything you don't agree with or don't have the capacity to understand is that you can't read minds. No matter how much you believe that your opinions create reality, you're wrong, reality is reality. The law is designed to protect the legal citizens of this state, no matter what color or race. The one point that I will agree with is that the drug runners are a big part of the problem. However...a bigger part of the problem is the people runners. The coyotes. Every other day neighborhoods are being evacuated so that drop houses can be raided. In these drop houses, more often than not, there are dozens of illegals held at gunpoint and often are being held for ransom. Don't assume that you know me or know my views because of my stand on this particular issue. It's an error that your type makes constantly because of your inability to see the world in anything but black and white. I was an activist in the late 60s and early 70s involved in many social and political issues. It's not that I don't have feelings for the people that are coming here to better their lives and the lives of their families...if I was in the same boat I would undoubtedly be here myself. BUT...I wouldn't be sneaking across the border because I thought that Americans were easy pickings for burglars and home invaders. Unfortunately...that is becoming more and more common. People are tired of this crap and it needs to end. If the Obama administration won't do something, AZ needs to do it.
this guy comes off as rushes bastard brother rush and his possee are some people that i wouldnt spit on! rush is a flaming drug addict, thats well known, everybody has a right to their opinion but people that spew hate ending up having no freinds, thats a proven fact, rush needs to find some females and get his pipes cleared, ohhhhh thats right I have never seen rush with any females hmmmmmm wonder why,lol lol
I think that unless one lives in Arizona or anywhere these problems manifest, it serves no purpose to call someone racist because they have been subject to the downside of illegal immigration. Anyone experience some of the results of unfettered illegal immigration? I have. Move to the San Joaquin Valley in California for a while and see how you feel about this. I ,in no way am refering to legal immigrants. In fact, the ones that are here should be given amnesty ---AFTER THE BORDER IS EFFECTIVELY CONTROLLED.Again (and again--and again--and again!!) I have asked for a number. How many people of the world should be able to sneak in here illegally?? 20 million? 50 million?100 million? How many, damn it? I want those who feel it's OK to allow this to continue to state their position. NOW.
I live in AZ I am not a racist. Make it easier for people to come here LEGALLY. Illegal is not a race. Illegal is your ass is here without going thru the proper chanels. I can understand why someone would want a better life for themselves and their families, SO MAKE IT EASIER TO COME TO THE USA, LEGALLY. With that being said, there is a problem with illegal aliens in the USA. Over half a million in AZ alone. That is allot of people. That is allot of jobs unemployed Americans could have. Tough issue, I can see both sides, except for the fucking kidnappers/drop house/criminals. If the US had good border security this shit would not be happening. Maybe if we kept our nose (and our soldiers) out of the Middle East we could take care of our own fucking backyard. I do not know if there is an answer/solution to the immigration issue. The way this country is going, we will be sneaking our white asses over to Mexico soon anyway.
I agree. People that have come here, worked for years, are bringing up a family and have not commited crimes should be cut some slack on the road to citizenship and be allowed to stay in the country. I ask the people that think it's "racist" to try and control the border, "What country in the world can you name that just lets ANYONE illegally cross it's border and do what they please??? What other country has such a large amount of it's populace screaming "RACIST" for not having open borders???" No country in the world but this one. Any time there is an invasion the country being invaded suffers. History tells us this. An estimated 9% of AZs population is here illegally. Isn't that an invasion? Think how things would have been different if the Native Americans had had a good immigration policy and secure borders.
About the job things, It really irritates me when people say they are taking American's jobs... They take the jobs no one wants, fruit pickers, janitors, construction workers, do you see the pattern? low wage, low skill, but hard working jobs. Also I know some guy who works in border patrol and he says a lot of honest people try sneaking over because they want a better life, but if you try doing it legally it takes way to long. He says a lot of time its sad having to make them go back, and I'm sure it is.
For those of you who think. The Arizona Law is based entirely on the Federal Immigration Law. It is the right of a sovereign state to protect its borders. The operative word in all of this is "ILLEGAL" If a person is here illegally they have no rights as such. It should also be noted here that before papers can be asked for the individual must have been stopped for another violation of law therefore establishing probable cause. No one is going to be randomly stopped and asked for papers. All illegal aliens should leave the United States and take their families with them, which happens in those areas of the country strong enough to stand up to them and tell them to go home.
There may be some jobs here in AZ that only illegals want, but not many. ICE did an audit of Ranch Markets stores and found 300 undocumented people had slipped through using either stolen identities or false papers. The markets were swamped with people wanting those jobs the next day. Fruit picking and other jobs may be unwanted by most, but any construction jobs and so forth are wanted by the people here legally.
You're absolutely right but the sheep don't want to hear that. The old saying, "Let's not let facts get in the way." applies. They want to scream "RACIST!" at everyone that doesn't hold the same opinion as they do. A cheap attempt at peer pressure. It's the latest mantra.
Well...I live in AZ and know LOTS of people that would take any job offered to them. It is easy to say what you would not do when you have a job, but when you DO NOT have a job and have a family to take care of picking fruit does not sound so bad. I used to work with a guy who got let go almost 1 year ago and cannot find work. Oh, and this guy, he is Mexican AND an American citizen. And when people bitch about the crime illegal immigrants commit, what about the crimes people that cannot find a job end up committing, just to feed their families? POVERTY is the number one cause of crime. POVERTY is why MOST of the folks are trying to sneak over here, to make a better life for themselves. It is all a big fucking mess. Maybe one day the poorest 98% of us in the world will stop bitching and stop hating each other and rise up and take back from the richest 2% what we have all broke our backs to give them.
Obviously you guys have not seen the hard work of picking fruits, its very hot, bathrooms are scarce, sometimes making them have to piss on what your eating. Trust me, many people can't handle it after a week. I'm only saying that because my uncle does that, and I feel for him.
Oh yes, as opposed to those who scream "SHEEP" at everyone. Inflammatory rhetoric aside, you are confusing two entirely separate issues here, as extremists often do. First, there is the problem of immigration, and second, there is the problem of how this law is supposed to deal with it. I do trust you're able to see the difference. It is quite possible to be concerned with the issue of illegal immigration and yet still have the insight to perceive that this law is not the way to deal with it. I know you're so very, very afraid that those fruit pickers and motel maids are imminently going to steal all the doctor and lawyer and computer programmer jobs in the United States, but set aside that mortal fear for the moment. First, it is not true that illegals "have no rights". Every human being in this country is subject to the same laws as everyone else. That's why we have laws in the first place, so that wild-eyed extremists can't shoot first and ask questions later of anyone they don't happen to like, which of course is most everyone different from themselves. The legal protections and the force of law apply to everyone. Second, lost in all the shouting and finger-pointing on both sides is the fact that this law actually does have some very good points. For instance, it provides for disincentives for employers to hire illegals, as well as those who transport them. Why didn't the state of Arizona simply stop there? Isn't economics the whole point of being an illegal immigrant in the first place? And please don't trot out the old tripe that they'll "just go on welfare". That tired old line has been tried many times before by the right wing and it's simply not true. The human services agencies all have stringent citizenship requirements, and while of course there will always be some who slip through the cracks, that's been a dead issue for some time. And third, I repeat my earlier assertion that we must separate the "regular" illegals from the drug cartel. The illegals are a drop in the bucket compared to the drug runners, who haul their product across the border with impunity. So why isn't the state of Arizona addressing this problem? Is it because there's a thousand times more money involved? Or because the drug runners have no compunction about shooting back? Do you think for a second that the cartel gives a rat's behind about the illegals? Finally, it was patently obvious that the original law, before it was amended, didn't stand a snowball's chance of withstanding a legal challenge. One could be excused for being incredulous that the learned legislators in Phoenix didn't foresee that. Who do you suppose those people are listening to? The complaint with this law isn't about the economic aspects, which are sensible, it's with the appalling and transparent attempt to disguise its racial aspects. It effectively institutionalized the formerly underground practice of making "driving while Hispanic" a target by police. You can bury your head in the sand about this all you wish, but I invite you to observe the Border Patrol checkpoints south of Tucson. If Arizona had simply used some common sense and restricted this law to the things that would actually work, there wouldn't be the great outcry the state now faces. I love Arizona and have lived most of my adult life here, but I am greatly dismayed that legislators don't possess the wisdom to see that.
Why must we separate anyone. An illegal is an illegal, it doesn't matter why they are here, if they are here illegally they have committed an act of lawlessness and have no right to be here. Send them all home and be done with it. Make them go to the back of the line, like we make everyone else do when they want to jump ahead of everyone. This is not rocket science folks. Illegal immigrants have declared war on the United States and we are doing nothing because of emotion.s I don't care if they want to better themselves. Do it the right way. Get in line, wait your turn, then come in.
Well I,m not going to pretend to have any answers about the immigration problems plaguing our southwestern border states its pretty clear something must be done about people coming into the states illegally. Like Larry said if you are here illegally you should not be here. It sucks that it takes so long to go through proper channels but that does not give someone the right to bypass those channels. I also think that if you plan on becoming a citizen of this country you should be able to communicate in English, alot of people seem to find this unreasonable for some reason.
