So....I'm seriously considering putting in some dread extensions just till my dreadies get some damn length. However I am completely clueless on how to do such a thing. Tips? Also...my hair is a weird color and I doubt I could find hair that matches...so would I put the extensions in and then die my head so it all matches? Or die my hair before hand to match the extensions? I dunno. Any advice is appreciated...thanks! =]

I use to have extensions, but this was before I decided to go au natural and have dreads. I bought cheap real hair extensions on ebay. Search 14" real hair extensions.

Anyways, you can dread the real hair (takes time, backcomb) Or you can buy synethetic dread extensions.

Your best bet is to order them in whatever colour you want your hair to be. Then buy enough dye to dye your hair the same colour AND the extensions so it matches.

I just think waiting naturally for your dreads to grow is the best bet but to each their own.

seems like so much work! In the end I prob will just wait it out more but it's so hard! My hair was past my shoulders last year and is now chin length! It's no fun having short ass dreads that you cant do much with! =[

you're not in this alone, lots of people have short dreads who want them to be longer. mine are a bit past my shoulders. I wish they were to the middle of my back

I was considering dread extensions. I bought the synth hair, and tried to make some, but they turned out shit so I gave up. Also considered felt ones but they wouldn't look like real dreads, so I just gave up. Remember you can't dye synthetic hair.

:) It will pass, you know that already though, my hair always looks shit and being surrounded by thick farmers and GAA heads 7 hours of the day can make me feel pretty self conscious sometimes but I still fucking love my hair :D

Finally getting longer now too, they shrunk up past my chin when I started, well the front ones did anyway but now theyre down to my nipples after about a year and a half. Just give em time :)

I was hoping you'd pop into my thread! =] How do you sew them on so they look real?

I realli feel that my extensions put some life into my dreads. I had the same thoughts on my hair before, feeling they were a bit flat and blah. I would first try a toner in your hair seeing as it's blonde already, to make it whiter (maybe do some research on teh internets about this, not sure if it works on nautral blonde)
my extensions aren't exactly the same as my hair colour but they blend in when you have a few in. Hair is lighter in some parts and darker in others so it's ok.
I put a wrap or bead around where I've sewn it on to make the transition of colours a little less obvious.
Ok, here's what I'll do. I'll make a thread over the next couple days with photos of how I do them, how they're sewn on. I think it's quite simple. Just time consuming at first but then their in and you don't have to worry about them till you wanna take them out!

ahh. I can tie my dreads but I don't like to do it.
    well, hmm.
If dread extension are anything like when one gets like microbraids, all I know it that, it kinda ruined my hair, which is why I stopped doing it. My hair got extremely brittle and weak. But seemingly most of the particular subform has a different hair texture than me, so I don't know how it works.
Is it simply just to add length? Does one take it out after a certain period? I seen them, but most people seem to keep them in for the longest time. Can it make it grow faster?

I know I probably sound stupid, but I seem to be from a whole different school of dreadlocks.

mine have definitely been growing faster since I put in the extensions. before I had them in every day my hair was being sucked up shorter and shorter. Practically into little dread balls. Having the extensions on the ends means the hair can't knot upwards anymore. It still knots across so I'm still getting different loops and things but I'm not loosing length :)
I bought some new hair mandy and am waiting for my side cut to grow to about 4 inches. It'll take another month or two. Then I'm extensing them to the same length as my normal hair so I don't have to go through that awkward stage.
I could send you some dreads in the post if you want! it would be strange but funny!
That's if you find it hard to do yourself.

Lux...That would be awesome if you made a thread about it! Tres tres helpful! =] And...Ooooo send me dreads! lol Id so put them in! Id probablly recruit some friends and have a dread party to help with the tenious labor....hmmmm...this sounds more and more like a possibility! =] Do you just buy the hair from a beauty store of sorts? Or do you have a website you could reccomend? =]

Ferral...yeah for me it's strictly just to add some length while theyre growing. I'd take them out once my dreads were a bit longer. You dont sound stupid...Im completely clueless to this process too and never actually imagined Id be possibly trying it out myself! lol
