Yeah, this Madcap Syd guy sounds like he's just an angry failed person. There's a lot of good in the South, and he disagrees with some of it, so he makes racist and classist statements against the South.

Go back to your Klan meeting, Syd. We don't need your hatred here.

Just because some schools in the south are like that doesn't mean you have the right to pervert things into such a form that you make everyone from the south seem like obtuse, ignorant morons. I'm fairly positive the north isn't that much better, or the east or the west, its irrelevant where the fuck its happening, the only thing that SHOULD matter is that peoples' basic rights are being ignored. By saying "the south" you immediately draw the attention of the reader AWAY from the issue and bring all the attention towards the fact that its happening in a certain area.

If you TRULY cared about the issue and not just the fact that its happening in the south you would have titled this thread "violation of basic human rights" or something intelligent, if you have the ability to do so.

Yea but it basically is the south, that's the issue, like you're from Texas and Texas thanks to your social conservatives is basically rewriting history in their textbooks, and since Texas is a giant buyer of textbooks that can often set national trends as well as the largest supplies of second hand textbooks it has far reaching implications all around the nation.

Sorry, but it is the south. The fact there are a lot of good people in the south doesn't change the fact there's an overall and sometimes overwhelming culture social conservative/evangelical culture.

But then again we have federalism and I don't live in the south, so meh what do I care what you people do.

Oh man can't wait to hear what happens when Oklahoma's new asinine abortion law is brought to court either. Despite the fact it'll probably be shot down as unconstitutional pretty quickly, to get an abortion in Oklahoma you must now:
Social conservatives do the craziest things. You must also get 2 ultrasounds have the doctor vividly describe the fetus before getting an abortion.

I think people are assuming that dogmatic liberalism = smart, but then again, it's failed us as much as anything else.

It's time for a new way. The 1960s are over and they failed. Let's move on.

Can you elaborate on that and tell us just how it has failed? I thought the country was doing pretty good when Clinton left office. Don't forget, the Republicans were in the driver's seat when all this mess came about.

Bush was from New Haven, Connecticut, so he would be more of a carpet bagger. But does anyone remember a sign that was posted on the highway near Plains, Ga. that began "We the farmers of Plains apologize to..."? I can't remember the exact wording, but perhaps someone here might.
Is the intent of this thread to display that secession of the South would be more acceptable today? After all, isn't the South where all the undesirables reside?

No, the intention of this thread is to show like the 1960's I think the south needs some common sense bashed into its head again. And yes, Bush was in fact born in New Haven, in fact before he had the lowest approval ratings ever, Connecticut was pissed he'd never acknowledge that fact, so on I-95 into New Haven there was a big sign that said, "Welcome to New Haven, birthplace of current president George W. Bush"

Obviously you're too young to know about the billboard I was referring to. I was born in the South, raised in the North, and lived some in the West, and Central part of the country. I've found people to be basically the same all over, with Liberal, Conservative, Religious, and other factions spread around everywhere.

Are you saying that he is a product of northeastern culture? Obviously, he doesn't think so. I wish that he did.

Texas is a unique place. It isn't quite South, and it isn't quite West. It's just Texas.

For at least a few decades people have been moving to communities that reflect their political and religious values. So, individual communities have been growing more polarized against other communities.

This is a very bad trend as people tend to move more Conservatives, or liberal, when only relating to people of of like values. It seems the more diverse our communities, the more diverse we are as individuals. As people move toward likeness, they become more intolerant.

I probably could have worded this better, but it's early for me.

I think you made your point clear, although I've found employment to be more of a cause of moving than trying to find like minded neighbors. I do think people, no matter where they settle or work, seek out others as their closest friends who are more like minded.

While I think this self-segregation is reflected in state politics, communities are most effected. If one's job takes him to Atlanta, for instance, he will choose a neighborhood that reflects his religious and political affiliations.
There was a big research project on this several years ago.

And, yes, our mobility is primarily due to corporations requiring their employees to move. I've never thought this to be a good idea, for many reasons.
