I've read up on other sites, but I can't seem to find an answer.. I've had my dreads for about a month and a half. I love having dreads, but they keep getting thinner. They are getting tighter, which is good, but too thin. I am wondering if I can do anything to make them thicker. I don't care if they get shorter, that's probably a good thing. I have 33 dreads. In this video you can see what they look like down, back, and tied up. I think it looks best tied up haha https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmNDmh_7jIw"]YouTube- Dreadlocks Any advice is appreciated, I am thinking of chopping them off.
Keep Ya Dirty Little Paws Off Them, Time Is All That You Need... Cheers Glen. P.S. Nearly Forgot, Welcome To The Dready Section Of H.Fs..
I have about 22 dreads they were super thin like yours and actually got a bit thinner after a month. Glen is right only time will help.. You can see in my Sig pic how thick they have gotten now after 9 1/2 months ...
They are getting thinner because they are getting tighter. Your options are: a)wait it out and see if they are going to get thicker on their own (they should once they are more established) b)encourage congos/don't seperate dreads from each other c)comb/brush/cut
I don't want to congo because then I'll have even fewer dreads. I am thinking about just tying each dread into a bunch of knots. I did it today for one and it looked pretty cool. We'll see. I'll think it over, but I'm still leaning towards choppin'.
Its not going to turn out how you want in a month dude. If you don't have the patients with them now, I suggest you brush..
Take one of these and then figure out something that you can do to positively stimulate your community.
sounds like he wants instadreads....alot of us here have had our locks for yrs, they werent exactly how i wanted them to turn out either, but you learn and wait and see what happens, not in a month or even a year, i wasnt totally happy with mine untill about 3 yrs in, and i still have some days were i wish they were thicker, or longer, or not so fucking grey, i guess i could dye them, but i am to fuckin lazy...just wait man, you cant rush it , grow with your dreads and appreciate them as they grow with you.
personally, i've always loved my dreads hahaha. even if they totally didn't do what i thought they'd do, i think they're effing awesome and really love them basically, just stop looking at your head so much and before you know it you'll probably like the dreads there and they might start shrinking up... mine did and caused some uber fatty dreads along the way
I love how people get a fixed picture of how their head will look, and then go "Oh, I thought not combing my hair would make it neater than this, better cut it off" I love my 2/3 head of dreads. But I walked in without any expectations, or wanting certain thicknesess, or colors, or whatever... (
Oh I have had those days where I am just like "screw it" but then I remember how long I have wanted to have dreads, and then imagine my self in a couple years and how amazing they will be. And it also helps when random strangers complement my hair and ask to touch it even on my bad days it just brightens my world.
I re-backcombed them and they got a lot thicker, so let's hope they don't get much thinner. I had to sorta break each one up a bit. Thanks for the advice guys. You're right, dreads are worth more than a rough patch.
I know I'm not the most experienced dreadguru but by re-backcombing them didn't you pretty much just undo a few weeks of maturing? So of course they'll be thicker because you made them fuzzier and looser, and they'll just get thinner again in a few weeks? Someone correct me if I'm wrong
