I've gotten them done. They also run a few other STD screens I believe. I've come up clean. Haven't gotten it done in 5 or so years because I'm in a monogamous and trusting relationship and have no reason to doubt this. I seem to remember that I got a letter about 14 days later. The process is easy and cheap if you go to a public clinic.
I used to go to a very thoro doctor who asked me to take an HIV test when I got my annual physical. I don't do too much at-risk behavior but still a good idea to get screened for those one-in-a-million little possibilities. However, I once cut my penis on a coarse hair while me and a friend were sliding around in our cum. Shit, even outercourse has risks. He said he was HIV negative, but just for confirmation I got a test at the free clinic on SoBe. You have to wait 3 months after possible exposure to see if you are infected because it is an anti-body test. (Need time for any possible virus to cause antibodies to form) They did the saliva test and I got the results in about half an hour. Still negative.
No, i've always been very careful about my partners, i knew them for a long while before i ever had sex with them, men or women.... Plus i've only had sex with two other men....
I have been tested a couple of times and I have had STD tests as well. I didnt get tested because I thought I had anything or had been engaging in risky behavior. I just think its impoirtant to check every once in a while.
Did you know that even if you do get an AIDS/HIV test it has almost a 4% chance at a false negative/positive? To me this is some scary shit, think about it a person could test negative for it (and really be positive) then go out and have sex with anyone they choose. Sure its only 4% but if everyone in the US (309,289,430) which mean that if they all got tested about 12,371,577 people may have gotten a false negative/positive. Just a little food for thought. I have been tested, still waiting for the results I should get them this week. I'm gonna get double check anyways just to be sure.
I've always been informed that the simpler tests like the ELISA were weighted to give false positive. If your test said pos then they would retest the sample with a more accurate Western Blot test to see if it really was. That is why the waiting period for the results. Now I don't know how they handle the mouth swab tests that get results in 20 minutes.
