It is always a good thing to pray. I am truly thankful for the freedom I have and my friends

My understanding is that it has been canceled in the white house this year and that it is being sent to judicial review as it is being challenged as unconstitutional. Seems non religious groups would like it stopped.

I do not pray as per say but I am thankful for all that is and I have.

Prayer puts you in a frame of mind, that allows you to accept the fact there is someone greater than you are, and that person wants you to talk, as well as listen.
Prayer is conversation with a Supreme Being.

if that is your interpretation that's cool. prayer doesn't do any of what you mentioned to me. conversation with a supreme being is not a factual statement, and more along the lines of a "faith" based conversation.

i know have a better understanding on why you think "prayer" is a good thing though.

i just don't need prayer, or the need to speak to someone (?) that can't be proven to exist to have that "state of mind". but that is another topic.

    carry on.

my guess is that people lose focus of things like this and need something to remind them. i am not "christian" i am not anything, but i do believe in the power of "positive thinking" and nothing bad can come from a day where everyone stops and thinks positively/hopefully of something.

There's nothing really "special" about it. They started doing it 50 years ago or so as an outreach tool to try to raise awareness of God for non-believers.

Also, the Bible tells us that there is power when people pray in groups.
