If its user ratings, its because IE still holds a very large portion of the browser market, although firefox and chrome have made massive strides toward becoming dominant. The average pc user, only understands average things. and some people (Beilive it or not) find firefox intemidating
From the way IE 9 is being reviewed by many, I wouldn't be surprised that IE regains a strangle hold on the browser market again. I went back to IE (8) mainly because firefox has had as many serious flaws in it, plus I find it way too slow. Chrome is alright, good speed and what not although I still find some issues with it. I only use it on occasion. I personally like IE. Don't know why people get in such an uproar when people prefer it either.
Because IE is as secure as a wet paper bag. ALL versions of IE still have so many unpatched exploits, its a wonder the browser even works. Where as Firefox, Chrome, and Opera have 0. IE only has a strangle hold on the browser market, because alot of the PC userbase, is the average user, that doesnt understand PC security. and so they use what comes with the computer. IE leaks information, is extremly vulnerable to the "Drive by install", and it offers little to no protection from things like browser hijacks and Helper objects. Its a disaster waiting to happen.
IE is normally the default browser for Microsoft, and some people don't know or care to make a transition
I wish people would stop making IE out to be the only insecure browser. I do wonder if it's because of MS being as large as they are (though with how large Google is and all the privacy issues with them, I thought there would be a push against Chrome as well) http://www.tgdaily.com/security-features/44602-firefox-most-insecure-browser
Well IE comes pre-packaged with computer sales doesn't it? I'm sure that might have something to do with it's rating. Firefox, being independent of pre-packaging (as far as I know), seems to be pretty impressive given the foothold they've gained. I used to prefer IE, but given certain things about FireFox I find it more convenient. More towards being able to block ads, javascript, specific objects, plug-ins, etc. But it does crash randomly in certain places, mainly regarding flash and active objects, only pitfall.
I browse forums like this and stuff with firefox. I like the simplicity of it. I do not download anything with firefox because when it is done downloading it just saves the file to a temp folder that is hard as fuck to find. I download from IE because of the nice dialog box that lets me navigate straight to where I want the file. I use chrome on occasion cuz of speed if i am downloading multiple .rar files at once and browsing at the same time tho... So I guess I use all three. As for security, that is what backup hard drives are for. If my computer gets a virus or spyware that i cant shake off I can just reinstall windows at the drop of a hat.
You can set downloads to any folder you want via Tools > Options > General. Or, You can set it to "always ask me where to Save files" (Firefox)
Firefox is what I use.. I like Chrome too but it doesn't install right on my laptop. IE is awful. I still have to use it to get on some sites. :/
