I just came up with a really crazy realization about life that I'd like to share.

    (I'm going to start simple)

    Suppose that:
My room is considered 'organized' when the space in my room is 'clear' or 'flattened out' to my eyes perception.

For example, the walls are flattened out, the dresser, the nightstand, the floor, the outer wall of the house, etc.

So, I have a theory that anything that appears 'flattened out'/ rounded out/ smooth always seems 'organized' to the human eye.

Notice that the nightstand for example, is 'flat on top' and if nothing is on it, it seems organized, and you room seems a little more organized b/c its 'that much' more 'clear space' and flat surfaces to the eye. But notice that there is a bunch of junk in the drawers of the nightstand. (which is also 'clear' and flat at first while empty, but 'unflattened' and 'unorganized' while full.

...Within the nightstand there are cases (camera case, headphone case, pencil boxes, etc) that are once again 'flattened out', smooth looking to the perception on the outside but has a bunch of crap on the inside.

Also, notice how the outer wall of the house is smooth looking on the outside but theres a bunch of crap on the inside. The outside looks more tranquil to people driving by then the inside would.

...and this pattern just goes on forever, its applied to many things.

    Stop and think about it.

...Ask yourself why? Why, do humans see a 'clear' flat and empty area as a 'comfortable' 'safe organized' area and an area where a lot is going on and everything is more unique/ maybe more colorful, interesting, and unpredictable "unorganized".

Do you guys think it has to do with predictability? Like if something is 100% predictable and constant to a human's perception it sends signal as 'safe' and organized. Like a dresser was originally bought with nothing on it, so a perfect 'organized' room would have NOTHING on the dresser b/c thats the most predictable original state of the dresser. Once there crap on the dresser, the POSITION of the crap on dresser in Unpredictable to human eye, while the actual objects might be predictable.

So, if something is completely unpredictable and 'different' information is coming in for a change then the brain goes into 'messy' 'chaos' 'unflat' 'unpredictable' mode.

NOTE: By predictable I dont mean it in a way like if you think about a messy room as an example: You can predict what all your shirts look like on the floor while your room is messy, you can predict what colors and designs etc just by seeing it for a split second. I am talking about the POSITION of that shirt on the floor. The positions of many different items add up to create the 'messy' setting when it doesn't line up with your standards of 'safe' and 'organized'.

i think thats a brilliant insight and i would say that humans probably see it that way because it simplifies processing, and the brain will run programs which generate behavior which decreases neural processing, if only visual.

complexity is hard to swallow. thats why psychedelics are so POWERFUL and so ALIEN its because they grab you by the teeth and hair and dunk your head in the waters of complexity and interconnectedness, something that youre not able to handle for prolonged periods

I think it has more to do with the effort the brain must use to process what it sees. When there are mulitple stimuli in a given area the brain must work much harder to process what is in the visual field. For example, the eye must find more edges (essentially how vision works) which are encoded into a more complex signal that must be decoded and processed.

In a clean room with less detail there is much less to be processed.. (less work for the brain). There for putting off a more relaxing vibe.

Side note: it could be nurture

Lol oh boy, people's comfort kills me. That's how business operates, safe and easy... Dollar people are the tidiest, neatest, cleanest; their souls are the dirtiest.

That's... interesting. I never thought of it that way before. o_o Now that I think about it, I've been having anxiety problems for the past about eleven months. I tend to feel more like I'm in control of my life when I finish cleaning a room. And what do I consider clean? Nothng is on the floor. Nothing is on the bed. Nothing but deodorant, lotion, and make-up on top of my dresser, and all the books neatly put away in the book shelf. Quite frankly, I don't even care that 90% of my wardrobe is in the laundry bag. I don't see it, so it's not making a mess.

That's kinda how I feel about life most of the time. Wow, you got me thinking. That's tough to do. XD
