Now hear me out,....this is strictly my opinion and I undoubtably bet it will eventullay change so please let us keep the peace. I have been practicing how to drive for a while now and it's pretty scary! Everyone is such a hurry to get where they need to go! (Let me tell you, I don't live ina big city, but it's still horrifying!!) I can't take it anymore! Everyone needs to slow down. I wish everyone would simplify our lives. i took the bus for a while and I do truly believe it is a great alternative to driving. Atleast carpool is better. That's what is hurting our gas prices: time-frenzied Americans. I mean I know our country would not have been what it is today if it weren't for the industrial revolution, but, I get pretty discouraged when I see how bitter the "ugly american," (John Maxwell- for the Jamacian Observer,) has gotten. *sigh*
First, I've noticed that Small Town America either drives really slow or really fucking fast. Like some of them are all about taking their time, with their slower country lifestyle, the rest figure there's fewer cops and just fly. Interesting... What's hurting america goes beyond time frenzy. Or maybe not. You know they used to say technology would save us a lot of time, dishwashers, washermachines and clothes driers, laptops and cell phones...we'd have more lesiure time. But now we just have more work to do because the work is done faster. Life is accelerating, so we need the tech to keep up, which speeds it up even more....a vicious cycle. The question is, why do we do it? It clearly has a lot to do with consumerism, but why do we do that? Feeling empty inside? that might be it...
hahaha i hate slow drivers. i just dont see a need to go slowly. most people have very fast paced lives and are pressed for time lots. im not saying do 90 in a neighborhood street, but im saying, dont be one of those people that does exactly the speed limit, cuz to be honest, i think lots of people that drive fast do so because they are good drivers. bad drivers and old people drive slow cuz they are scared. i think being scared is worse
I was driving down a residential road the other day, going 5 over, and the guy behind me fucking PASSED me! I couldn't freaking believe my eyes. And he still got stuck at the stop sign and then at the light. I ended up right behind him both times too. What a fucking idiot. There's no need to go that fast, you don't get where you're going any faster, traffic lights and stop signs generally even things out, and at most you gain a minute or two for your average trip driving around a city. Added to that is the fact that the speed limits are there for a reason: safety for other drivers and more importantly, pedestrians. They do scientific testing to determine optimal speeds for different roads (highway, secondary, residential, etc). I go a little over, like any good American does, but some people do it so excessively.
PEace, get an old car. classic like my 57 Chevy Bel Air. then you dont want to go fast. well if you put a big motor in it yes. but my motor the original 283 v8 can go 115 mph but i wont do more then 50 on the nighway. and interestate isnt even an option! just an idea! yes lots of gas money but if you want you can screem the tires on teh concrete later the tired flower child
I've always thought, even when I first got my lisence, that the driving age in America should be 18. And hardships?! Gimme a fucking break.
cars don't belong in cities; and they don't belong being our primary means of long distance transportation either. other then that, if they weren't powered by any kind of combustion and didn't require wide flat places to drive them on that tear up half the countryside they'd be just fine. 90% of privately owned motor vehicules are used in ways that other tecnologies, were they more redily and widely available, would be infinitely more appropriate. =^^= .../\...
At one time cars were not the primary means of transportation in the U.S. The entire country had a very good rail system build around trains and trolly cars. You could hop on a trolly in most small and large towns and travel many many miles. Towns and cities were inter-connected this way. Many of the old amusment parks in this country originated as trolly parks. People would ride the trollys to a park in the country on Sundays. Then the tire and auto companies conspired to buy up all the trolly lines, rip up the rails and force people to buy cars. I belive Goodyear and General Motors were the major companies involved. And that's what happened to mass transit in the good ole U.S. (This is not a conspiracy theory this is history..check it out.) Pittsburgh, Pa managed to hold onto it's "Streetcars" until the 70's. I still remember the "Golly Trolley" circa 1972. It was painted in psychedelic colors!
PEace, the reason railroads went out is because it was more convient to owna car enstead of paying 10 bucks every time you ride a train. railroads up till teh late 60's wanted to pull passengers. then the automobile became to desired and railraods were FORCED by the government to keep them till they got a inercity rail system ( Amtrak ) constucted. Amtrak is mostly unprofitable rails old railroads abandoned because they didnt want them. that is Why Amtrak is so unprofitable. to muh cost per rail mile. you can look it up but you may have to search real deep. look up Amtak history USRA or rail passenger government administration. but i like railroads but i LOVE my car my 57 Cheyv. and abduman. why do my posts amuse you? you dont think my 57 with its original 283 cant screem?! hehe. wanta see? :H later the tired flower child
I was wrong, it was Firestone, GM, and Standard Oil. Tires, cars, and gasoline. http://www.brooklynrail.com/info_streetcar.html
no i just find the idea of a 16year old having a fully original 57 chev ridiculous. unless its a complete pile or you have a rich dad of course..
re: speed limits When roads are built they have two speed limits; the posted speed limit; and the road's maximum safe speed. The posted limits is ALWAYS below the maxium speed, sometimes ridicously lower; sometime barely under. I've been on 4 lane divided highways with limited interesections that have a posted speed on 35! The road can easily handle traffic up to 60, 70 mph! I think the real road problem is that there are not enough express ways. I don't mind paying to use an express way, but when they are roads that are meant to handle traffic at >100 mph and they have a 55mph posted limit, that is jsut a waste of my toll money!
I think the question in THIS case is: Can the Drivers handle the higher speeds safely on those roads?
Well most of those roads have multiple lanes, drivers should never drive faster then THEY can operate, regardless of the allowed speed...darwinism will sort out the rest
I like slower speed limits because my van is slow. I am damn lucky if I get a nice straight flat highway where that thing can sustain 70MPH. otherwise its about 60mph average.
100kph is the highest speed limit in nz.. (60mph) although i gotta agree.. we have the actual speed limit signs and then recommended signs for things like corners.. there was a recommended 55kph corner in a 100kph zone.. i followed a concrete mixer doing 110 around it.. just pointless..
well around the chicago loop its mostly 90mph and above, no exaggeration and on typical highways its over 70mph that 90% of traffic is doing and every little while a car goes by so fast that its like your sitting parked and thats just down here in central IL away from chicago and all that alot of bad wrecks, not just cars, but buses and so forth seems to be getting more and more frequent, ppl are alwyas in a hurry to get places, time is money, time schedules, requirements, lose your job or an appointment if youre late, get fined and/or jailed if youre late to your court time, etc. lately i have have been getting passed in town, ppl go around in the left lane- lane for oncoming traffic only, 35mph limit neighborhood areas, and main streets too, passing a car in town is one of the most illegal offenses in most places, crossing solid middle line, etc. ppl need to chill out and be careful and courteous, but instead it seems its going the opposite way and more and more so, faster and faster, even i have been getting less and less laid back in the last couple of years now, i need to get away from this society, creations of lucifer that are claiming more and more souls this world needs to chill the hell out, reconsider what is really valuable to mankind-time ? money ? wellbeing? health level ? family ? what ?
I am a rational thinker, and I don't believe in wars of any kind. Laws, yes, but war is a poor choice of words. How about providing a life (activate to provide law), a world, that nobody needs to use drugs in? It really does help coope to stay healthy. Great to see others who'd rather share the planet without automobiles. All I want for Chrismass is gasohol in my tank.
