okay, so i have about 4 month old dreadies, just pulled one apart cause i was suspicious and...guess what, mold. i have no idea if it's in all of my dreads or just the thick ones, but anyway they're not that locked and i really, REALLY don't want to cut them off. i've been doing research online and I have read everything from "it's impossible to get rid of mold" to "just use baking soda"...

anyone else actually had this problem that has cured it? I am down to try whatever, but I really don't want to make too quick of a move and eff them up. so...vinegar, tea tree, baking soda, rubbing alcohol, lemon, thyme...someone please tell me something good because if i gotta cut these babys I'm going to be REALLY depressed. like beyond belief

I can anticipate certain questions, so i'll answer them now-
i was about once every 4 days, sometimes blow dry sometimes air dry if i'm walking to school

i use dr bronnors, just put a few drops in a bucket and add hot water and soak then rinse.

I never wash after noon so i don't sleep with them wet, and i try not to put them up if they're not dry...

some thick ones, some thin ones, some tight ones and a bunch of loose hair.

as of right now i'm going to have to keep them up cause having a pulled apart moldy dread in my face all day is so gross

please...someone out there's gotta have some ideas! thanks in advance, if you say something awesome i'll find you and give you a high five

fish oil works wonders with mold... just smear a bit over the dread.. sit in the sun for 30 mins and hopefully that should solve the mold issue.

Just make sure your hair drys after washing. Expect to blow dry for at least 45 minutes.
Now let the real Rastas tell you the right way to do it too.

I think that you might be worrying about nothing tbh.

I dont thinks its mold, just dust/lint which everyone has in there dreadies.I had stuff in mine when I cut some in half.

No need to cut your dreads off or owt like that!

Can you even get mould in dreads that are so young? I mean you seem pretty meticulous with your drying routine so I can't see it being mould. I agree with Chemi it's probably lint and shit. I sometimes get smelly lint, if it makes you feel better do a deep clean with tea tree oil and baking soda and put a few drops of tea tree oil in your shampoo for a few weeks.

I agree with the other two ladies. It's highly unlikely you have mould after just four months, but if you want to play it safe, then just wash with ACV/white wine vinegar, or tee tree oil and baking soda to clean things up.

mmmm, moldy, smelly, natty, dirty, funky, crazy, dready....

thats cool, man. go with it. clean with what you think will get it clean.

i wash with water only and every two or three days... and i'm not so meticulous about drying my dreads. i dont have mold, and i doubt you do either.

If you think it's really mould... like for sure, it smells like mould, without a doubt.... Then I would think alternating a few wasehes with baking soda, vinegar, very hot water, and whatever else you feel like SHOULD do it just fine?

But I have no problem and wash more often than you... but I also live in a desert.

Hmm yeah living in a desert is handy! I live in the UK and mine take almost a day to dry! Sometimes they smell like god the next day. Dog is not a good smell!
