First off, if there is a thread that contains the answer to my question feel freee to just tell muh, but i didnt see one, but i didnt look hard. Yeah was thinking about droppin some color into my wig next month, it will be one year and I just basically think it would look cool, ya know. But i dont have a clue what to use or where to begin. Any input ya may have is aprreciated
remember once you use henna you cant use any chemical dyes from the supermarket anything with peroxide- theres a good chance you wont have any dreads left- hennas awesome but you dont switch fields fuck- who gives a shit if someone has done this thread before love, heres the new one thats what i say
thanks hdh, may sound very dumb ha but do I just like brush the dye on my hair and rinse it off like an hour later? Or is there more to it?
No problem. I'm gonna hijack and ask can you use henna over old dye? Gonna be henna-ing it up next month.
henna over chemical colour im no sure- i could imagine it would be he same principle the salon i worked for only did chemical so i just saw the effects of chemical over henna- the hair frizzled up and broke apart- i do remember studying why exactly the two react- i just cant remember- but i can find out for you if you like
Yeah sure that'd be great. I desperately need to dye my hair, my new shampoo stripped my colour so I have blonde dreads, red dreads brown dreads with blonde and red mixed in.... I'm using Lush Henna they should be pretty legit as it's all organic shit, right?
youd have to find out for sure- they say pure henna doesnt react i was just reading up- it has something to do with the metalic salts- that react to chemicals. if theres a way you can find out that would be good when i was hairdressing my tutors advised those with henna in their hair either grow it out before using chemicals or continue with henna- the results of using normal colour after henna probably vary- but you never know whats going to happen- i advise doing a strand test put some dye on a few strands and watch it like a demon for 10-20 mins
I just did a quick scan around and apparently lush dyes have no salts. I'm a bit stuck with the strand test because Lush says for best results leave the dye on for 6 hours...
hdh- yeah, i think i read somewhere about how if you wait for a good few months after chemically dying your hair, then henna over the top should be fine though maybe you should test like a little dread in the bottom that you don't care much for? haha just to be on the safe side. I think it should be good though. I dyed my hair like 7 months ago and was planning on henna-ing over the top of it soon. mindtraveling- I think you just put the dye in and try to squeeze it into the dreads, it'll probably take a LOT of dye, as dreads just sort of absorb it. Should work just like normal dying though. But when it comes to the conditioning afterwards, skip it lol which is pretty self-explanatory.
I found loads of stuff that said lush henna is safe to use on previously dyed hair even customer reviews on their site said they've used it on bleached hair Alaska, I last dyed my hair a year and a half ago so I should be right. I'm gonna do a strand test on my fringe and on some bleached hair. Sorry for hijacking.
yeah HDH you should be fine if it was a that long ago deffinately do that strand test- keep an eye on it if you can over the 6 hours- but deff check the texure of the hair after the times up- all hair reacts differently- if your hair is reasonably healthy you shouldnt have a problem. some people are freaks and have amazing hair that never falls out no matter how much they rape it with bleach and products. others arent so lucky and their hair falls out after 2 bleaches- you know the quality of your hair- strand test and beter judgemen you should be fine
hdh i used chemical dye on a couple of dreads last year, like nov time. i henna-ed over it in april. my hair is absolutely fine. what lush dye are you gonna use? i've tried caca marron, my hairs so dark it didn't do a thing. if you want red hair i'd suggest going to a healthfood store and buying henna there; it's a hell of alot cheaper. just add loadsa lemon juice.
I'm gonna try the caca brun. I've tried red hair and I really suit red it just doesn't have that staying power. I would try henna red but, I change hair colours a hell of a lot and I don't want to take that chance. I've heard caca brun is really good for mousy hair so I'm gonna try that. Although I was looking through phoenixsun's photos on here and she has amazing henna red hair. I'm jealous.
May I suggest http://www.hennaforhair.com/ for all of your henna questions and even for buying your henna! I've been a huge fan of this site and it's products for about two years. There's even a forum so you can ask/find all of your specific henna questions there. They have great prices for the purest strands of henna, too. Good luck!
