RICHARD DAWKINS, the atheist campaigner, is planning a legal ambush to have the Pope arrested during his state visit to Britain “for crimes against humanity”. Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author, have asked human rights lawyers to produce a case for charging Pope Benedict XVI over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church. The pair believe they can exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, when he visited Britain in 1998. The Pope was embroiled in new controversy this weekend over a letter he signed arguing that the “good of the universal church” should be considered against the defrocking of an American priest who committed sex offences against two boys. It was dated 1985, when he was in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which deals with sex abuse cases. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article7094310.ece Christopher Hitchens explains in more detail... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBody5RPo2o"]YouTube- Christopher Hitchens: Arrest The Pope!
And with the official action there will be prayers conducted by ...Salmon Rushdie. Now his religious book for worship will tell it like IT IS.
What other group could so succefully and publically defend the actions of child rapist's than the Vatican? None come to mind immediatly...
Deliver Us From Evil is an excellent documentary about these molester priests and the Vatican's attempts to protect them. I strongly recommend it, it's filled with all sorts of sickening facts
When a strict condition of entering the priesthood is celibacy, who do you expect will be willing to take that life path?
I just saw this last night, I have some Catholics in my family, but it was never something I wanted any part of. They are a political party more then a religion, they want everyone to treat them like it's 1345 and they are still kings of the world. Most of there rules and traditions do not come from the bible but rather things they made up and added during the middle ages in order for them to have more power. It's sick and pathetic that so called men of god act in that way, and the pope was able to stop it but he did not. Even among the hardest criminals who rape and murder, there is honor amongst thieves you do not touch children. That is why when people like that go to prison, they do not last long.
How can they expect a man to be celibate all his life, some are bound to turn strange, I hear they don't want them to marry because they don't want to have to pay for a wife and children, yet they have so much money, to expect a man to be celibate all his life is not fair, or natural.
Priests have lots of money? What priests do you know. Most, unless wealthy by a book deal or something like that, live meagre lives. One priest blogger I know of eats only one "fancy" meal a week and eats mostly ramen. Celibacy does not make sex offenders, did you know that most male sex offenders are married http://network.nationalpost.com/NP/...link-between-celibacy-paedophile-priests.aspx I have also posted numerous times about the abuse in protestant and jewish religious communities (not be celibates) as well as in public schools. It is not celibacy. All the lifting the mandatory discipline will do is prove this fact.
Errrr. . . How can you think that it has NOTHING to do with celibacy? I mean, seriously, you're not even thinking. The drive to satisfy one's sexual desires is one of the strongest we humans can experience. Failing to satisfy it for extended periods of time can have detrimental effects on both the psychological and even physical health of a person. It will eventually build into a kind of desperation. So what do you think sounds easier to a priest - molesting a young girl/boy and convincing her/him not to tell anyone or raping a fully-grown woman and convincing her not to tell anyone? When you consider that sexual tension has been building in these priests for years and years and the priest just has to do something, anything, to take care of it, its not so hard to understand why the abuse problem is so widespread. Thats not to say that celibacy is the cause in every single case. Obviously there are some sick people who are just into that sort of thing.
Is it not possible predators seek out ways to abuse children and adolescents? http://psychology.wikia.com/wiki/Celibacy Others, still, point to research indicating no direct connection between celibacy and clerical abuse, citing, among other things, the fact that rates of abuse are significantly higher among non-celibate people of all professions than they are among celibate priests. Prof. Philip Jenkins, Professor of History and Religious Studies at Penn State University, published the book Pedophiles and Priests: Anatomy of a Contemporary Crisis in 1996. In it, he stated that between 0.2 and 1.7 percent of Catholic priests are pedophiles or child molesters. His 2002 article "The myth of the 'pedophile priest'"[10] expresses his views. In contrast to Louise Haggett's statement, Professor Jenkins states: "My research of cases over the past 20 years indicates no evidence whatever that Catholic or other celibate clergy are any more likely to be involved in misconduct or abuse than clergy of any other denomination -- or indeed, than nonclergy. However determined news media may be to see this affair as a crisis of celibacy, the charge is just unsupported."
I am in agreement with Ukr-Cdn... to say that celibacy and priesthood brings about child abuse is equivalent to saying that Muslims commit terrorist acts because they're Muslim; Only a small percentage of Muslims are terrorists and only a small percentage of priests commit abuse. There are a billion plus Muslims yet the large majority just go about their lives. In the same way, there are millions of priests yet only a small minority commit those crimes. What accounts for the large percentage of celibate priests that don't molest anyone? Personally, I think if the person wanted to do it then they would... celibacy doesn't play a role in that but can be used as an excuse... albeit a very poor one. I am not supporting the Catholic church... mainly because there are people that have came forward saying that the current pope, before he was a pope, knew of something yet didn't act. I am just supporting against the presumption that celibacy causes abuse.
Ever seen the Vatican? I guess the Lord doesen't provide... Well to be a sex offender you cannot be celibate so I would consider it a moot point. Again, when a man wearing funning clothes rapes a kid he cannot be celibate so your point is moot, defend the child fuckers all you like it doesn't change the facts.
