    Acceptable hairz, I suppose....

What's the story with the ray? I assume it was dead at that point? You guys have a bunch of deadly sea stuff down under, I'd be afraid to go near the beach there, with the blue ringed octapuss, all manner of crazy jellies, rays, etc....

Mmm our oceans are whack... at night you can pull in sharks off the beaches we surf (Bronze Whalers small hammerheads n shit). But when you're out there you try not to think about it. Often we see dolphins or seals... but you first see a dolphin fin pop out the water like 5 metres away you it defiantly terrifies you.

    story of the ray.
Was out surfing with my mates at a beach about 30 mins from where I am. This beach is notorious for stingrays and you see them all the time when you're wading through the shallows.

Anywho this was after a surf and we were heading back to the car and this bastard of an Eagle Ray was just lying on the shore dead. You can probs see the huge gash in its side (not a normal wound.. probs an arsehole fishermen).

We thought we'd get some pictures next to it as this thing was huge.. probs about 4-5ft from wingtip to wingtip.

I'd be happy for the dolphins, don't they beat back sharks?

At this boy scout place (the florda high adventure sea base, for anyone who knows it/cares) where i spent a week when i was 13, they have their own island, with a mile or so of shallows/sandbar around it, and when I was there some of the troop guides had just been repremanded for taking their troops barehand shark fishing, by standing still in the shallows by a dock, waiting for a nurse shark ( "i'm a nurse shark, I'm docile" ) to come by, and flipping it onto the dock by hand. I think someone got bitten, which caused the crackdown.

I was always sorry/glad at the same time that I missed that bit of excitement.

    ohh you.
A while back I had my face in my sig. I'll pop another one out sometime

    negatory.
My mates dad is an old-school long-boarder and in his younger days he remembers crystal clear seeing a pod of dolphins only moments before having a close encounter with a Bronzie.

holy shit.. thats crazy. They are usually alright until you provoke one.. so being bitten was inevitable. My only shark encounter was snorkeling and stroking a Port Jackson Shark.. they're harmless though.
