Hello, I just got my comb coils put in yesterday by a loctician in my area with the intent to start dreads, My hair is Curly. before I start with the questions, here are some pictures: ok, since this is a new method for me and i am unfamiliar to how it works, i got questions. 1. with my hair type how long will it typically take for my hair to lock with these comb coils? 2. I notice that people with kinky'er hair then mine that have comb coils they look tighter, and more like dreadlocks at first, will this effect the outcome of mine or will they all look the same in the end? 3.what will my loctician do to maintain my hair when i go back to her next week for a maintenance? palm roll? 4. at some point are my coils taken out ? to me it just looks like my hair is being held together with gel, i dont see how that makes it lock? is it the new root growth that locks? and any other tips/unasked answers, that could help me would be appreciated thanks!
Without being rude, it doesn't really look good, it looks like a perm. You'd have been better off just stopping brushing and letting them lock up that way. Afro hair locks up mighty fast, you wouldn't have to wait long. But I have no idea how long it'll take for those coils to lock up, I agree with statement 4. it just looks like she permed it and gel'd it. I think the loctitian raped your wallet. I wouldn't ever go back to that loctitian if I were you, they're just gonna rob your money. From now on just wash your hair and forget about it. Infact go see if you can wash the perm out now. Sorry bro.
wow, did you research locking methods before you saw the loctician or did you do it on a whim? who knows what that bitch will do when you go back for another visit. I'd try to wash to perm out, because that's what you have. Then, let it lock up on its own from there. I'd check out the FAQ thread http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=365451&f=209.
Ow.... On the less painful side, you have hair that should lock up easily compared to lots of peoples here, I don't have "curls", my hair "twists" as it grows... but thats about it.
not picking on just you. but perms in general actually make me feel physically sick... nearly had a vom there
I'm finding it hard to comment on this.. just please, wash it out, demand the money back, tell you're hair dresser that she needs to find some Thriller fans if she wants to stay in her career, and start palm rolling em. You're hair is naturally curly, it'll dread on it's own after a few weeks of not washing and sweat. If you really want to speed things up run through a few Slipknot moshes or somethin'.. and salt water if you're by the beach... just avoid the oil...
actually, make sure to wash your hair.... ignore that guy above. sweat does not equal locking. clean hair knots up much faster, its common sense really.
Eh.. I've seen it happen, nobody is a know it all, nor who'd want to be one (at least I wouldn't want to be the man to deal with you're problems). Just stating what I've seen people's hair do before in locking situations, with 'bout 40 or so different heads, and having locks myself for seven years. Everyone's input is the important factor, leaving no idea unmentioned.
.....The "paint" would have black spirals in it, kind of like when people sponge for color variation/texture
