So MLK jr. is the only person to have a national holiday left named after a person. Lincoln's birthday and Washingtons Birthday have been lumped together into Presidents day. I dont think its right that a man who plagerized, not just word for word but even the grammarical and punctional errors in his "I have a dream" speach and received his "doctorate" by cheating should have a day named after him let alone a national holiday. It will be a great day for freedom of all people of the "Human race" when we are not judged and given preferencial treatment due to the color of ones skin or "race"

So what do you think about this? People need to investigate just how honorable or dis-honorable this man was before giving him a holiday all to himself and not to the entire fight for freedom and equal justice that he played a very small part in.

Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. lead a movement that empowered a large fraction of this country's people. For too long, African Americans were officially inferior. Rev. King lead the movement that gave these people more of the power they deserve. He said "there will be hard times before us" and that is still true. But, as a toddler, I drank out of a "white's only" drinking fountain. That was before Rev. King's leadership brought more racial equality to this country. His effect on this country has been profound and empowering.

That's my synopsis of Dr. King's effect on the world.

I think this country should honor him based on the positive effect he had on us, rather than fuss about whether he footnoted his speeches properly.

I think he was a great man who needs to be remembered, but I think in today's society we should focus on civil rights in general for ALL.

Most importantly, is it a paid holiday?

We could eliminate all controversy by renaming ALL holidays as Paid Holiday #n, and Unpaid Holiday #n, allowing each individual to recognize the holiday as they wish, and know if they will be paid or not if they take the holiday instead of working. Ideally we should strive to eventually make EVERY day a paid holiday which would allow those who work them to receive premium pay. That might be one way of eliminating welfare and entitlement programs and achieve full employment.
