How simple do you want to keep it?
How much money do you want to spend?
How big is your growing aria?
    What strain have you selected?

12 on 12 off refers to the light cycle that educes your plants to flower.. The cycle will continue at that rate until harvest. (7 to 14+ weeks depending on strain)

    +1 for Ed
He use to write for high times magazine a section called "Ask Ed (he might still). In the 90's I often referred to his articles to identify nutrient related issues and I'm sure thats where I learned about cloning too..

I haven't planted marijuana yet but I sure want to try to plant and smoke my own stuff in the near future. While I was browsing on the internet about nurturing and growing marijuana, I read an article in the internet about marijuana pot growing. Here's the top 8 list

    1. Never tell anyone - this will be your silent pride and joy. Consider this as your investment. Who wouldn't want to smoke their own plant? Invest time, effort and love. Yes, I think that's the key!

    2. Keep your work area clean - Yes, keep all your tools in order. Do not leave them lying around so you can work faster and easily. This will also create a clean environment for your plant so that no bugs or disease or something like that will happen.

    3. Choose seeds that are of high quality - The outcome or the final product really depends on it's genetics. If it is your first time, be prepared to be disappointed if you purchased the seeds in an unknown source. Look for trusted websites on the internet and know your stuff.

    4. Do not drown your plant with water - This is the most common mistake that cannabis growers do. After germination, you must allow the surface of the soil to get a bit crusty, then, stick your finger for about 3 or 4 inches under the soil. If you can not feel any moisture, you must water it thoroughly. If you are using tap water, do not water the plant directly. Keep the tap water that you will use in an open container and leave it for at least a day so that harmful sediments including chlorine will evaporate or be released.

    5. Do not use a lot of fertilizer - This is the 2nd most common mistake done by first time growers (that's what the website tells me). Keep it at a minimum. Your soil already contains some nutrients. If the plant is now on the vegetative stage, add more nitrogen. If the plant is on the flowering stage, at phosphates and reduce nitrogen.

    6. Provide an Ideal Environment for your Plant – The main factors to consider in order to achieve a superior growing environment would be the humidity, personal attention, air circulation and temperature. If you keep these factors in check, it will give you the best results. As what garden lovers do with other plants, they talk to them, play music while gardening and care for the plants. You must do these things to be successful in growing marijuana.

    7. Keeping the Trash Separate – You must keep the trash away from the plant. Use separate garbage bags if necessary. Just make sure that you destroy all those paper trail stuff. A much better way to dispose this is by throwing them into the fireplace.

    8. Never Do the Harvesting Early – The key to this one is patience. You have nurtured your plant for this long so you will have to wait. Wait until about 50 percent of the pistils are brown. When it is really time to harvest, begin at the bottom going all the way to the top. Do not do the harvesting all at once.

Since I haven't really tried growing weed, I hope this helps guys. For detailed information about this stuff, you can check other sources like the High Times magazine and such.
