You've made yourself abundantly clear waterbrother, you are not lacking in that department. As I told you waterbrother, I was once as you are now. As above so below. Here is a modern day example of the idea of sacrifice and how it unfolds in the arena of everyday life. We are told that we are Americans and that we belong to the best system in the world. In order to preserve that system, we stand up armies to be sacrificed to preserve the system. In this way we justify violating the commandment thou shall not kill. This sacrificial propriety puts us in conflict with our brothers and throws us into a crises of interpretation. Another example, gay marriage. Some christian pulpits preach against gay marriage or gay life in general as sinful. This is a condemnation. If you ask a gay person about it they say this is the person I love. They are not condemned of themselves, what God has joined let no man put asunder, they are condemned by the accusation of impurity and having thus been lifted up as an example of violation, the roman crucifixion, the centurions gather below the cross and cast lots for who gets their garments. Let us vote on a constitutional amendment defining marriage. Let us decide what portion of society the gay person is allowed.
When you view the Bible as a literary work as opposed to a magical implement we can see that it's character is defined by the characters and understandings of the innumerable lives that contribute to it's construction. We see two diametrically opposed views in the Bible. There is God's take and there is mans. Throughout the Bible we see the contest for authority. Nation against nation, justified by their own holy doctrines. The whole contest for authority boils down to this, who ya gonna believe, God who judged creation good, or the cowering guy in the cave shaking with terror at the clap of thunder thinking oops, I must have fucked up? Fear not.
Those are men's thoughts not God's. Christians do not engage in secular warfare, this system of things is being done away with, so why would Christians defend it? As for marriage, the Bible "defines" it as the joining of a man and a woman, not as the joining of a man and a man or of a woman and a woman but as the joining of a man and a woman. As for what portion of society the gay person is allowed, let them have it all, if they want, it is just not going to last that long anyway.
Again you've missed the point of the Bible, the whole contest for authority boils down to this, who ya gonna believe, God or Satan?
Satan! All the way, motherfucker. Christians will always burn in hell, like all the bibles in church fires.
Who singled out christians. the manifestations I describe are ubiquitous to the human species. We are devotional by nature. You always choose with a guide. That guide in this world is either God or mammon, and you cannot serve two masters. It is either the substance of God that sustains us or tradition that we look to. I don't know anything either about secular warfare nor spiritual warfare. As far as I'm concerned warfare is a thoroughly human occupation concerned with upholding traditions which is no concern of mine. I will not trade away my inheritance for the sake of human institutions. What God has joined let no man put asunder, period. Why is anybody about regulating anything? Nor will heaven come to to think of it. But then again, no one knows the hour.
i was raised catholic but i can't bring myself to believe in god anymore i just honestly can't even see it as a possibility anymore
Do you really love this system of things; with it's murder, hatred and jealousies; it's lovelessness, genocide and ruination of the planet; It's famine and pestilence; It's rape and child abuse so much, that you would have these things go on forever rather have them done away and a new system of things brought in based on love. Well as for me, I don't find that to be sour news and I am happy to be the bearer of it.
Well, you have cast your vote and know where you stand, I have to admit. As for burning in hell, you can be thankful that such a thing does not exist.
And yet this God you know so well, it is interesting that you never use his name. Could it be, you do not know it?
"I don't know anything either about secular warfare nor spiritual warfare"? And yet Christians have never been pacifists but warriors in a spiritual war. "I have fought the fine fight" "Fight the fine fight of the faith" "I found it necessary to write YOU to exhort YOU to put up a hard fight for the faith" "Put on the complete suit of armor from God that YOU may be able to stand firm against the machinations of the Devil" "go on waging the fine warfare" "As a fine soldier of Christ Jesus take your part in suffering evil" "we have a wrestling, not against blood and flesh, but against the governments, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places" Did YOU not read that he who created them from [the] beginning made them male and female and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will stick to his wife, and the two will be one flesh’? So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Yes, no one know the hour but we were given signs so we can know when that hour draws near.
