Doing some mighty ole research. Planning on throwing an event at the end of this year, and my main audience is mostly going to be dirty old/young hippies like you fellas. I'm looking for a kind of charity to give all the proceeds to. Will most likely be a New Zealand chairty. If anyone from New Zealand is here, would love to hear from you. I just want to know what you people feel passionate about, what about the world grinds your gears.. which injustices gives you a gross spermy taste in your mouth? Eg. Animal abuse.. Destruction of Nature/wild life.. Sheeiit anything you like Anything would be great my natty buddies
The problem with charity is it's run by people, and people are corrupt. If you're going to give money to charity.... just write a damn check to whoever they're going to spend a little bit of it on, honestly. I would suggest that you find a cause you can directly spend the money on, perhaps literally at this event, with the people who put fourth the money, to introduce the transparency charitys tend to lack. Then people see their money combined with other peoples to the point that it matters, and thrown directly at a problem, instead of trusting some fat person to feed africas children for you or something, if you get what I'm saying. Or there are some groups, like animal shelters, that arn't charities in the traditional sense, and do legitimatly scrape for every bit of cash they can get, you could find one of them, and if you carry my weariness of handing over cash, just find out what they need (ie vehicles, whatever, as im assuming we're talking about a large sum) and just buy it for them. Not sure how much sense this made, i'm pretty tired, have fun deciphering it.
animal poachers. they piss me off. whaling ships. deforestation. shit i can go on like this for days.
Ya smell like one! You sir are a smart cookie. I've always had a distrust of charities.. Straight back into the community is what i was hoping for. The sum really isn't going to be the biggest i don't think, Its just an outdoor music gig. Done it only once last year, its a free event for the community to chill by the beach and enjoy. but we're hoping to be able to raise money through donations and stalls and the like. I'm most likely getting far ahead of myself and we won't raise any money at all. We're new at this whole business thing. If anyones interested here a video of the one we put on last year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGB1GzjtZFQ"]YouTube- Dub Day Out
Pretty much what Roor said. I don't and won't support big charities because donations usually get caught up in admin. We have a thing here called "children in need" the UK raises £2m a year I forget the amount but only ten grand goes directly to help the kids. Call me a bitch, but I'm not really passionate about causes and things that don't directly affect me. I guess I want battery hens to have a better life becauses free range is tastier, but I'm not passionate about that. I lack the skills of sympathy and empathy.
Whales. We need to find a way to kill all of them. No, but seriously, anything related to nature deserves some money!
Israel? There's an animal charity over there called SAFE or something? There's a very sound guy called Mark Eden who's involved with them. He does great work.
There is too much shit in the world that brings tears to my eyes. Too much to list. But big thing is the fact that there is enough resources in the world to feed, house, and maintain everyone in the world hundreds of times over, but because of this money-based economy which controls the world, there are MILLIONS of people going cold, starving, sick, and living in real poverty. There is too much greed in the world.
with the whole israel thing... he's probably referring to the conflict between the israelis/palestinians. and the fact that the U.S. and some other countries inserted themselves into it and "created" a country out of territory already controlled by other people, for peoples of the Jewish faith following WWII and the anti-semitic problems/horrible destruction that occurred during said war. some people are a little pissed about the whole "Israel" thing....
yeah i was just trying to figure out whether he was saying that we should send money to support israel in their establishment of a 'homeland'.
