I just got my first tattoo last thursday, thought i'd whore it out here.

Background story, for those who caaare. <3

I tried to get a tattoo a couple years ago. It was supposed to be like a reaaally beautiful phoenix, and i wanted it a little feminine, wispy, simple. It meant a lot to me because life had been looking up, after some really rough points. Went to get it done, and the artist drew it up, and it looked like a pokemon. Practically ruined the whole idea, so i didn't get it done.

So i waited two years, and just about a month ago i'd gone to my girlfriend's house, and she lives in the states, and i'm a canaaadian chick. The difference between here and Maine, is crazy. I couldn't even hold her hand in public without the fear of people getting all rawr. I generally don't really care what people think, but i know my girlfriend wasn't really too comfortable with even subtle pda, because of where she lives. I mean the state had voted to get rid of gay marriage, in the same month it had been passed. And just driving around we saw a bunch of signs still up on people's lawns from the vote, and it was like 5 months ago.

So on the bus home, i was thinking about how unfair it is....like... how teenagers do. I went home and somehow ended up on google looking up equality symbols. Not ooonly because of the gay rights thing, but a lot of it is just general equality. It kills me when someone is honestly racist, homophobic, sexist, even stereotyping. When I say honest i mean...i might laugh at someone if they tell me to get in the kitchen, but if they're seriously an abuser, i freak out. I get really defensive over equal rights/treatment.

Anyway. Most of the tattoos were just a simple = sign. I didn't really want to pay for suuuuch a simple tattoo, and i didn't really want people asking all the time what it was or what it meant. So then just last week i saaaaid fuck it. I'mma just get the word equality. Simple, meaningful, easy to hide, straight to the point.

The font is called Dear Joe, and I'm in love with it.

Thoughts? <3 Anyone else have any wordy tattoos they adore? :]

    I have no ink, yet..

but if and when I do, it will not be words of any sort.

I wanted a tattoo when i turned 18, but I was so scrawny that i thought it would stretch when I filled out. Well I didnt really fill out that much. anyways, enough about me, here's what I feel about your tattoo.

Anyone who sees it will Immediately assume you are gay. and it is above a normal collar line. You must wear your hair down if you dont want it to be seen. I believe that desire will become more and more frequent as you get older. This will prevent you from ever having shorter hair if you felt so inclined..

Well so far, most people haven't assumed that i'm gay. I mean, i'm actually not gay, atleast i don't consider myself to be. I'm a pansexual, but i do know that many people will definitely go for thinking it's a gay thing, which is cool by me :] Because since i am dating a girl, it is a big thing to me, but it always has been.

But yeah, i don't intend to cut my hair, and if it caught on fire or something crazy, i'd wear a wig anyways :p It was actually going to be a bit higher up, but once he put the stencil on, i was sold.

Thanks a ton tho, i totally get what you're saying :] I just absolutely love having this simple little word with me forever. :]

There's douches everywhere, they're just allowed to show it publically in the states.

Maine's really quite the owasis of liberalism.... there's douches, but the current population was practically founded by hippies running from the man and towards cheap land... For example, one of my familys good friends when I lived there go there by running away from home during the hippie era with a friend and a motorcycle, and running all the tollbooths from new york city to central maine, where he proceeded to smoke a lot of pot, build a house, raise a family, and make acoustic insturments.

Just saying, don't judge a book by its cover, the insane homophobes are more likely to put a sign on their lawn than the average person who really doesn't see the issue, and unfortionatly, they seem more likely to vote too.... People in new england can also seem cold, by culture, it's not the kind of place you wave and grin at strangers, but it doesn't mean they're hostile. (and now I'm in texas, a rather hostile, conservative, homophobic, racist, generally messed up place, and everyone waves at people they have never seen when they pass them on the road... like huh? do i know you or something? )

I see what death's saying, but I don't think most people will look twice, or if they do, think twice... I know I wouldnt, and I didn't assume anything about your sexual orientation until I read the post, not just saw the tat. Then again, i'm not exactly tuned to pick up things like that, given that it makes no difference to me who anyone's attracted to, unless it's me.

    Enjoy it.

I didnt mean to sound like a dick. sorry. But what is pansexual? is that like bisexual? I just assume gay when i see that word because I have seen the equality bumper sticker next to so many rainbow stickers. And I do a LOT of driving. (pizza guy).

as for the location thing, Im gonna stick by my point that maybe you shouldve got it maybe one inch lower. Especially for your first ink.. But dont take my word for it, I am just a guy on the internet who dosent even have any ink.

Oh haha no you weren't being a dick at all XDD sorry if i made you feel it <33 totally didn't mean to.

Pansexual...is sort of like bisexual. There's a thin line that makes a difference to some, and no difference to others. Bisexual people have an attraction to both sexes. Pansexual people are open to falling for either sex. Like I'm generally only attracted to men, but i told myself that if a girl ever comes along an i fall for her, i'm not going to reject her. If love happens, it happens.

haha yeah i know a lot of people associate equality with gay, and rainbows are gay, which is totally cool, but sometimes it kinda sucks for people who just like rainbows, y'know? :]

Haha naw i noticed that when i got it done, but it's not really a big deal at this point in my life, and the direction i'm going in, it doesn't seem like it will be :] But who knows where life takes you. <3

Yeah, I wouldnt even look twice normally, unless I was interviewing her for a job or as a potential girlfriend. but this thread is about it so I developed thoughts on it as I was typing.

And I'm not a homophobe (if that is even what you were implying, sorry if it isnt), I just associate

    with

even though I know it is a generalizagtion

Oh yeah no i totaaally love a lot of mainers. And maine. I hope i didn't sound too anti maine :p I think it's mostly the area we were in, i base a lot of my info off of my girlfriend because i don't live there. I know a looot of the people there are older, and i know that tons of older people are cool with gay people, but there's more that aren't. Atleast, in maine that is. :p I read a quote once...something about how if the vote was left to people under 40 or 50, gay marriage would be legal. :p

Oooh texas. <3 Really want to go, but i know of the conservativeness... but i guess it all depends on where you go and who you meet :]

Haha yeah, i'm the same way. :] Thanks a ton. <3

I actually took polaroids of this badass rainbow that happened in mechanicsburg ohio when i was 16. they all kept calling me a fag. This was really a once in a lifetime super vivid rainbow. I could actually see the pot of gold! lol but you get the idea, so I had to take a couple pictures of it. I still got them. I would love to share them with the inteernet world but i have never had access to a scanner in my life. Like I said they were polaroids taken in 1999/2000

When I saw the tattoo without reading your story, I didn't think it was about your sexuality, but just general 'equality'. I like it and don't think it will stop you having short hair in ten years if that's what you'd want!

Thankyou sooo much! :] I got it where i got it so that i could either show it off, or hide it. And i discovered today that it actually can be very easily covered by the majority of my shirts, so i don't think it'll be a problem anyways! :]

Oh wow :] Triskeles are beautiful. Thank you soooo much. <3 I love word tattoos, because i think they can make a really bold, simple statement.

I want a Dr.Seuss quote on my fooot. "Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than you.”

Yeah, the whole rainbow thing sucks for those of us who are strait but like the whole color spectrum...

The rainbow thing is also spilling over into tie-dye.... Tie-dye's awesome, I hate when people try to tie it to what type of crotch I prefer :p

hahaaa yes i know. And i can't just like ONE colour. :p I wasn't sure if tie dye would be consumed by it as well. I don't own anything tie dye, but i think i need to.
